As long as there are posts asking for IDM Food, and what IDM people wear for pajamas, I will continue to post on-topic, music-related posts about music that people here listen to, and are searching for.

Exactly, you think, but you can agree that what you think does not reflect what 2000 others are thinking? Would you say that is a true statement?

I am choosing to end this discussion now, and I hope that people can make their own choices about things instead of making it harder for others. I will say no more on the subject. Why should it be up to me to press the delete key? In case you forgot there's an etiquette on this list: "Flame wars, regular trade lists, constant notifications of ebay auctions, and weekly notices as to the various tracks you have uploaded to mp3.com in the last week are not welcome on this list." -Neil -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hey Dean, posting multiple posts A DAY for people to buy records from you is excessive. As someone mentioned there is a netiquette on the list, try it or go pimp your records elsewhere. It's not like there haven't been people asking for you to limit your spam. Greg Clow asked nicely a few weeks back. I've almost a few times. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The one thing I don't understand about the whole ebay thing is why the hell is it happening at all..!? i don't know labels and artists that well to know but its rare that there are ever any rare things on offer from what limited knowledge i have... not buying LPs perhaps limits this too for me.. but deep down why are they being sold.. don't you like the music anymore, do you want to make money out of it.. or are you just happy to encode into mp3 and then sell on the original (or heck even a CDR copy) I'm sure a lot of people are with me on this in that when they get music they cherish it.. I only have about 500 albums, some great, some so so... but each one will be kept .. till at least I ran out of space... and it its this lack of space that motivates these sales then my apologies... then again I have to say i never bloomin read these posts anyways.. never really understood the point ... that is until i see a BOC Maxima CD (that isn't a CDR rip from mp3s) offered although with the impending twoism rerelease perhaps it wont be too long for that too?!? :)

Here's my story. I was a laid off auto worker (temporarily at the time) for a short period not long after I was married. I had over 8000 CDs (and still do), many of them oop/rare. I had rent to pay, etc. and since this was a labor-dispute thing, GM contended any unemployment pay. I made an emotional divorce with owning the originals, upgraded my PC (1700$ at the time - things have changed!!) to enable me to cd-r and started selling. Since that time (and being a music addict), I have moved to ebay and use it as a place to sell so that I can keep the influx of new stuff strong and still keep a shirt on my proverbial back. Most of what I sell, I DO like - which is why (in most cases) I bought it...and I buy an *awful* lot. I moved to ebay mostly because it has some semblance of community via the feedback process. I have to dispell one myth I hear bandied about constantly. Ebay isn't all about high prices...for every overpriced item, there are a hundred great deals out there waiting to be found. I buy as much as I sell on ebay (well, almost :-) - and usually I turn around and sell it again, often at a loss. I don't look at it as a money making venture; I look at it as a way of keeping the music coming in and staying married/housed, etc. As anyone who does this with ANY regularity will quickly tell you, it isn't easy if you are going to be a good seller. It takes a LOT of time, patience, standing in lines at the post office, buying packing supplies, etc. When I *do* make something on a sale, it doesn't cover much of the losses I incur on the other items (not to mention ebay fees, paypal fees, pkging costs, etc.). Maybe some people are making a killing on ebay and it's all about *selling* for them, but I know a LOT of people who are selling IDM/313/Ambient stuff who in the same category as myself. Hope that sheds a bit of light in terms of at least one corner of "why" the ebay phenom exists. On the buyer end, it is there because (as I alluded previously) there are some great deals on items I never thought I'd ever track down again. 'Nuff said. jeff At 05:30 PM 10/30/2002, James R Bamford wrote:

Being somewhat of a veteran, the "old" rules used to be no more than 25 lines when posting trade/sale lists, no repeated posts with the same items, listing something to the effect of sale/trade (FT/FS/FA) in the subject line and some semblance of restraint (i.e., not posting repeatedly in a short period of time). This whole thing was a big issue years ago. I emailed Teep (then admin.) and asked him to make certain of what protocol was and that was it. Some people like sales/trades, some people don't. We have to co-exist and both ends of the spectrum should be considered and a sensible middle found. My .02 anyway. jeff At 04:26 PM 10/30/2002, Chris Henry wrote:

Sure it's nice if someone posts a URL or maybe post an occasional Ebay auction, but 4 or 5 posts a day from one individual is unacceptable netiquette wise. If this becomes acceptable you'll have more people pimping off everything from disco records to herbal ecstacy. Perhaps engage the list by sending ONE list, not multiples every couple of hours. --- inky <inkyinkz@yahoo.co.uk> wrote:

I have no problem at all with people posting eBay listings, but I think in the case of the fella in question, what gets on everbody's tits is the fact that he seems to send one email for every single item he sells. I'm on the IDM Mart list too, so I get two emails for every item he auctions. In fairness, he could easily use one email and list a few artists in the title of that email once every few days, but unless he's actually breaking the rules I guess we're stuck with it.... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
