I just got my hands on the dead ringer album, released on Def Jux, and uhm... I was wondering if i'm the only one who thinks that the overuse of voice synthesis on 90% of the tracks, totally blows the album's ranking from good down to very annoying? This sounds just as bad (or worse, because its everywhere) than the opening of ok computer, by radiohead. I got somewhat disapointed. this is one of my fav releases of the year, i like the blend of drums / synth / mc'ing and the meldoies are lovely. i havn't come across anyone who doesn't like it yet, even the oldies where i work bop to it. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? are you talking about the promobot tags on the album? it's on press copies, to discourage bootlegging. its supposed to be annoying. the retail version doesn't have that, and its the best album of the year. pR absorb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frederico Oliveira" <idm@stylevictim.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, September 06, 2002 8:05 AM Subject: [idm] rdj2

Yo! Does anyone have contact info. for RJ? I am putting together a show of hometown C-bus talent and his old address keeps bouncing messages. Also, any recommendations for a solid IDM/Beats artist any of you promoters out there have worked with that you would recommend? Any small tours going around that you know of? Right now we have two battle DJ's, an all-original IDM-based experimental hip-hop group, and a spoken word street poet lined up, so someone to round things off with the following would be great... I would like to add someone to the roster who is... A) very good B) easy to work with C) relatively inexpensive:-) D) in the same vein as Chocolate Industries-type beats for the head- nodders I have been doing underground hip-hop shows and various electronic (microhouse, techno) events for some time, but never really ventured too much into IDM. I realize this is a vague reqeust, but any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, JS

that explains a lot. i feel stupid now :) oh wait. i already did before. well anyways, time to get this record where it was and get a real decent not-battery-operated copy. no wonder track 1 was: its a promo. aaieaiieaieiaea shame on me for skipping it before listening decently. Well actually, I'd say mission failed because instead of thinking this a brilliant album I thought "this is god awful" and when the latest new releases listing from Skimo.com came out I passed up on it wondering "why are people saying this is so good?" The purpose of a promo should to garner interest - not to discourage people from thinking it's any good. i assume the promo goes out to the press etc who know that the voice over is only for the promo, and i've heard alot of people talking about the voice which means alot of people just download it. its obviosly done its job. the promo in my view (discouraging the voice) shows it to be the amazing album it is. ----- Original Message ----- From: "StaticBeats" <idm-list@staticbeats.com> To: <SYLK130@aol.com> Cc: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, September 06, 2002 7:04 PM Subject: Re: [idm] rdj2
