See: Matthew Herbert. Not that he's the sole practitioner, and not that the term isn't used to describe styles slightly different from his, but when I hear "micro house" I always think of Herbert. I actually only heard the term for the first earlier this year, and heard it used specifically to describe Herbert-style house. Not that I'm big on pigeonholing and genre factionalism, but in this case I was actually glad to have something, as I'd always struggled when asked to describe Herbert's style. I really don't think of myself as being all that into house, be it hard house, bangin' house, deep house, white house, out house or whatever, but I am a big fan of Herbert and his ilk, so I guess I like micro house. This is a term that I first saw coined in The Wire referring to Jan Jelinek, T.Brinkmann, Vladislav Delay, etc. I think it's about a useful a term as "IDM", but I guess it's better than arguing about Mac vs. PC or Coke vs. Pepsi or something even more rediculous. Herbert is, in my humble opinion, not an example of 'micro-house' as it's used here - not at all, in fact. I never use these words to describe anything because all I can think of is a DJ with two tiny little turntables under a magnifying glass spinning house records. m John Goelzer(johng@engberganderson.com)@Wed, Jul 17, 2002 at 03:14:09PM -0500:
