The Certificate 18 camp is still putting out some good tunes...Polar & Klute. Sonar Circle's (aka Domu) last single Havoc on Reinforced was great! Pieter K's is pretty awesome, unfortunately most of his best tunes are still waiting to be released. He just started a label called Metaformal (www.Metaformal.com), so hopefully that will speed up the tunes coming out. Pieter also has an album coming out on Breakbeat Science, that should be great. There's some really nice downtempo material on his album that should certainly appeal to the IDM scene. Oh speaking of Metaformal check out the Polar & John Tejada release. The A Side is sort of electro-ish and the B-side is dnb. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! i don't know if this is "cool" or not, but i like cutup darkside-ish stuff a lot, especially teebee. he seems to be still writing good stuff. i think, for me, panacea also falls into this category. blake/ --- William Samuels <w_technoir@yahoo.com> wrote:

Andy C, Shimon etc. Technical & hard yes, innovative no. They use to put out interesting music, but now they are pretty boring. Probably the worst dnb track I've heard is Moving Fusion's 'Skull Smasher". All they did was sample 808 State Cubik and make a dnb track out of it. Not to mention that track had been sampled to death in the early 90s. Old Ram is cool, the new stuff forget about it. Black Irvin <wordsounds@yahoo.com> wrote:

Teebee use to be pretty cool, all his tracks seem like he's rehashing familiar territory. That's the whole problem with the drum n bass scene, everyone has jumped onto the same sound and just keep regurgitating the same kind of stuff. Does anyone remember when everyone had their own sound? There were even different camps that sounded different and everyone tried to out do each other and there was a lot of progression in the sound. Nowadays it just sounds like everyone just wants to whip out a tune without putting much effort into it....like that whole 92 techno revamped into dnb songs....like Moby's "Go" being turned into a dnb tune by Dylan. That tune was never good in the first place!! I certainly hope Angelo Badalamenti and/or David Lynch got some money for that tune.

last night on Enough radio, a guy from Germany called SICKNOTE played some excellent durm'n'bass tunes!!! it sounded a bit like german rave + heavy drum'n'bass rhythmes, but it wasn't breakcore sort of thiing, more like the current british d'n'b but with trance/rave synth lines, etc . very powerful and energetic. he played a lot of his own stuff as well , which is impossible to find at the moment:((( sasha --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There are a variety of styles in drum n bass but like certain other dance genre's there's a tendency to recycle the same hard instant dancefloor filler style of tunes. I say check out Bassdrive.com and listen to the various shows throughout the week. You're bound to find something you like. whoever is playing right now has some mellower stuff going on. And if you like the old days of crazy chopped drumwork I suggest you find some tunes by Paradox. --kev/entitee on 5/24/02 1:22 PM, sasha at sasha@rockinpony.com wrote:
