hello, just some short information to let you know about new releases and some live appearances of our artists. best wishes from berlin tm new press releases label: morr music artist: manual title: ascend format: lp/cd art.no.: morr music 027 streetdate: 06.05.2002 » tracklisting 1. midnight is where the day begins 2. astoria 3. out for the summer 4. cassy 5. the distance 6. am 7. as the moon spins around 8. keeps coming back » info the world is a small place. thankfully there are people out there who are capable of making it look and sound a little bigger than it is. one of these people is jonas munk jensen from odense, a small town in denmark, who calls himself manual to work on a kind of music that, like most great works of art, transcends reality to become something that could only exist in the mind. these sounds seem to come from out of a better world where beauty matters above everything else. in morr music manual found a platform on which he finds for himself what his music essentially needs and that is time and space. after having released his debut ep on the danish hobby industries label, the network of sympathy and fine musical tastes soon found a way to connect loose ends between odense and berlin, resulting in until tomorrow, manuals first full length, a moody masterpiece between great gestures and finely tuned understatement. ascend, the title of manual's second album shows the way this music is going. at any time it is uplifting in a melancholic way, it directs into the inner self or into some far distant nowhere. all these emotional paradoxes stand in a tradition of many a great sound-sculptor starting with 4ad-acts such as cocteau twins, the swathing surrealism of my bloody valentine, the intense lethargy of talk talk up to the sheer beauty of slowdive. with these traditions in mind the music is carefully transferred into here and now while never losing a certain sunken quality. what more could titles like as the moon spins around or the distance give away? it's all there. although jensen is still only 20, he has some years of experience in making music. while in a way still juvenile enough to be real mood music, the tracks are mature in their reduction on essential components which give them a lot of depth and spaciality. all those soothing, opalescent sounds may come from out of old analogue synthesizers but jonas' indie-heart is still beating on the right side. one or the other subtle guitar part bears witness to that. same goes for limp, jensen's other project in which he shares his vision with three friends to follow a similar path with different measures. their debut album orion was also just recently released as morr music 025 and is the perfect companion to manual's body of work. morr music - a number of small things ( a.n.o.s.t. 004) artist: teamforest title: home format: 7" art.no.: a.n.o.s.t. 004 streetdate: 26.04.2002 » tracklisting 1. home 2. i cannot care as much as i'd like to » info great stuff can come into existence when the elements for a seemingly unlikely combination are chosen unconsciously. with a little bit of luck this can make sense as is the case with teamforest's debut single for morr music's very own 7"-series a number of small things. a meeting of a long forgotten new zealandish lo-fi-pop attitude with rattling electronica beats and sounds plus a few not so very hip instruments like banjo or synthie trumpets can actually result in something like a classic pop song with a finely tuned melody with just the right melancholic note. it gets its own special charms through the use of the electronic elements with the lo-fi attitude in mind - it's about the spontaneity of the moment that ideally lasts forever. the b-side shows an even moodier aspect of teamforest. pure electronic melancholy with a slight shimmer of hope, all the while it grooves relaxingly like a respectful tribute to boards of canada. the man behind teamforest is one philipp bueckle from dortmund, germany who has so far released a handful of singles on various labels, contributed to some compilations and did remixes for acts as different as missouri and kinderzimmer productions. his previous projects include the postrock-band jefferson and the noise-drone of forest. artist: isan title: clockwork menagerie format: 2lp+7"/cd art.no.: morr music 028 streetdate: 10.06.2002 » tracklisting 1. autolung 2. betty's lament 3. calf 4. comb 5. cubillo 6. damil 85 7. eeriel 8. eusa's head 9. phoeb 10. remegio 11. rron 12. schema 13. titled, not tithed 14. uim + 7" tracks: bask to barics & angora wub/wub mohair » info when everything falls into place, something great can come to happen. robin saville and antony ryan from leicester did a lot more than was actually planned when they were founding their integrated services analogue network. they not only found themselves a very nice little corner in the world of electronic pop music but also unconsciously helped to launch the label they now preferably release their records on. like this one. this compilation of early material coming from long-out-of-print singles and compilations was a long time coming. mostly because there should be many more people out there who should be able to listen to these tracks than those lucky few who were able to get the original copies in the short while they were available. for instance there's eusa's head, isan's first ever recording which surely had to be rescued from collector's vaults. it's nice to hear the first steps of a group that nowadays tends to remix people like depeche mode. but this is no highly official or definitive collection but more a collection of favourite tracks you should be able to listen to at all times. these tunes seem to come from a different era when small labels like earworm, liquefaction empire, bad jazz or wurlitzer jukebox were continually presenting interesting and exciting new bands, mostly on neatly packaged limited edition 7"es. one of these was the melodious masterpiece damil 85, isan's debut-7" for wurlitzer jukebox, which at the time seemed as mysterious as it was great. nobody knew where this was coming from or who this dubious dr. ivanovich was who did things that may not have been necessary. for a fact, isan do exist but they're not so much a working unit as may have been supposed by many. robin saville and antony ryan actually live and work separately from each other and just found a liking for releasing their music under the same banner. this principle works astonishingly well. as different as their respective styles may be - it's up to the listener to guess who did which track - the tracks seems to be secretly interlinked in a way that goes beyond profane explanations. the music ranges, depending on from out of whose vintage analogue equipment it comes, between simple melodies on swinging, feather-weight beats and rhythmically complex and transparent sound installations. may this be the right balance between pop and art. maybe like an unlikely mixture of plone and seefeel. for morr music this compilation the realization of a very old idea. the tracks gathered here have given essential impulses in the development of the label's style and ideology. in a way the group and their label follow the same path and that is to go into the future with the past in mind. isan sound recordings damil 85 + cubillo - "here i go again on my own" is the second remote viewer album to date. the ten tracks are all very personal, intimate moments full of fragile warmth and quiet melancholy taking you by the hand as soon as the guitar comes in and plays along to colorful melodies and small clicky beats. this is an album sounding like a dreamy day spent alone in the countryside, when you look down a hill and whisper songs from another world. file under indietronics. artist: bitstream titel: crab nebula | stream one format: 7" cat.: block 015-7" streetdate: 06.05.2002 bitstream is the brothers steve and dave conner, born in the mid 70's in a small town in northamptonshire, england. dave spent his early years drawing wildlife and began playing keyboards at the age of seven. dave's melodic ability was soon realised by his musical family and he began taking organ lessons for a few years but saw the traditional elements as too stale. the move into sampling and synthesisers came quickly. by his early teens dave began making cassettes using samples of natural, mechanical and electronic sounds ranging from beating tupperware to even sampling the motor of a friend's mum vibrating dildo! all the sounds were being layered with melodies and speech synthesis. steve's first musical adventures were as a scratch dj and at the age of eleven he was winning scratch battles with djs twice his own age. after exposure to choral geniuses, such as penderecki and ligeti steve realised there was still some work to be done (about a 100 years worth!) and let djing take a back seat (though occasionally surfacing under the name dj daddy longlegs). he decided to study harmony from 16th century counterpoint to modern day freer 12 note tonalisms... he works as a freelance computer aided design engineer and has designed components for jaguar's xk8 and cosworth's performance engines. content with making music for themselves and friends the brothers only began releasing music a few years ago due to a friend's insistence to 'get something out'. the tracks are created individually but when heard together give a rounded musical experience. last year saw the creation of pylon studios - a base from which they can transmit their erratic output. ps: both tracks on this 7" are killer and will be followed by more material next year on cco. label: hobby industries artist: dub tractor titel: hum ep cat.no.: hi 011-ep format: ep date: 26.04.02 » tracklisting a 1 hum(part 2) 2. press button for music (part 1). b 1 hum(part 3) 2. press button for music (part 2). 3. on the use »info dub tractor is anders remmer from copenhagen/denmark, who has been involved in various projects and bands for the last 20 years. starting out experimenting with a limited instrumentation, going through to a periode of playing drums and writing a great deal of the songs and music in how do i, he moved into electronic production when buying an early w30 sampler and drum machines. from there dub tractor was started and closely after he formed future 3 together with jesper skaaning/ acustic and thomas knak/ opiate. while busy producing ambient/dubby songs for several albums in both projects, he also found the time to produce more techno/house stuff as jet... ending in a total of 3 dub tractor albums, 3 future 3 and 2 jet albums mainly for april records in copenhagen... in the meantime the mp3 webpage : www.systemf3.com has been a consisting digital outlet for these projects, but at the same time dub tractor has found the time to release a split ep for cco late 2001. the music on this release are not what would be considered normal dub tractor, as anders normally has a way of finding a deep dubby bass and mixing it with gentle and thin/clear repetetive melodies. the bass and melody has both been reduced on demand, but the touch of production is still intact. hum and press button for music both surfaced when anders was invited to take part in two art projects : hum(part 2)was commissioned for a headphone installation in berlin and press button for music (part 1) was for an installation in copenhagen .. simple a small object you needed to activate to listen to his music!!! dub tractor is about spaciousness .. not a 100% minimalist soundwise, but still trusting the idea of “less is more". where his melodies normally catch you immediatly , these productions needs a few listens to get into .. but so does most other nice music :) future plans : talks of a dub tractor album for cco, producing new future 3 songs + an album with new project, system, for scape late summer 2002. label: karaoke kalk artist: wechsel garland title: liberation von history format: lp/cd cat.no.: kalk#21/cd12 release date: now tracklist: gift das love klischee verbluten eins aus tausend the master twoheaded horse liberation von history better sight steps "liberation von history" somehow reminds one of a jumbled up jigsaw puzzle. you are easily tempted into trying to fit together the obvious pieces in your mind according to your customary logic - until those few little pieces turn up that just wouldn't fit in, and you realise that it isn't meant to be rearranged at all, that, rather, it's those stereotypes lodged in your head that are to be tidied away. on "liberation von history", wechsel garland is playing a lot with seeming contradictions. the two very different facets of his music whose cohesion is not immediately accessible correspond to the album's two sides: while side one sounds sad and melancholic, side two appears very at ease and liberated from musical conventions. jörg follert has come a long way since his "wunder" album. with "liberation von history", he in a way liberates himself from the stereotypes or clichés that had then been attributed to him. you will nonetheless find everything you used to love about his music, everything that fascinated and enticed you, here again - only different, taken much further. the album features guest performances by jens massel (the person behind the karaoke kalk projects kandis, fumble and senking) at the bass, jacques palminger (member of the hamburg-based band universal gonzales) and finally the voice of japanese singer hirono nishiyama. artist. märz title. love streams format. lp/cd cat.no. kalk#22/cd13 release date. 21.may 2002 tracklist: introductory things can only get better the cricket song the help song interlude #1 chelsea boys the hysteric song the rain rains interlude #2 love streams everybody had a hard year bars 1234 sometimes you think all has been said about some music, and maybe there is always a bit of truth in that. however, the good thing about music is that it is never confined to one 'true' moment but is with us in many different ones. and just like these moments change, the perception of and emotional response to the music you are listening to change as well. the music of märz again creates new sensations and emotions once you let yourself be captivated by it - some moment or other: at home, in the park, in the evenings in the company of friends. some things on love streams will sound familiar, yet new - as if having moved to a another neighbourhood, which is neither better nor worse than the old one. the overall composition of each separate piece and of the encompassing whole is so self-contained and dense and at the same time so close to us that one feels like sinking into it. this fascination might best be compared to that of some classic singer/songwriters, who by way of the lyrics let us share in their pain, melancholy, joy - and their personal revelation. only here, it's not the words but the music that is doing this to you. maybe this is 'new folk'. label: suction artist: lowfish title: maintain the tension cat#: suction014 format: 6-track cd-ep/12" date: 28.05.2002 hello. hot on the heels of his recent 12" for detroit's ersatz audio label, lowfish (aka gregory de rocher) returns to suction records for "maintain the tension," a new 6-track ep of precision drum machine electropop. this is suction014. the title refers to a certain set of glorious knobs on one of lowfish's prized vintage synthesizers, but we won't bore you with the details.... lowfish's recent output has taken a turn towards dance-floor-friendly electro, but don't be scared of lowfish's dj-friendly beats! this is classic suction robot pop, and lowfish's rich & timeless synthpop melodies make these clubhits more akin to depeche mode circa 1981, than to gigolo records circa 2002, that's for certain. "speak and spell" comparisons aside, this is utterly modern electronic dancemusic that is beautiful, engaging, & beyond trends. forget electroclash, this is electroclass! robot music from canada. thankyougoodbye. next suction release ::: coming 27.08.2002: artist: g.d.luxxe title: vendetta e.p. format: cdep/12" cat#: suction015 cd/12" tracklist: 1/a1: reasons 2/a2: words 3/a3: garden 4/b1: quiet life (g.d.x.mix) 5/b2: metawelt info: tba live dates pelzig (payola/kollaps) 22.05. akw würzburg 23.05. asta uni essen 24.05. scheune dresden 01.06. seewiesenfestival steyr (a) 17.07. poolbar festival feldkirch (a) tbc 27.07. 000 festival dornburg the notwist (city slang) 03.05.2002 i-florence - flog (w/ styrofoam) 04.05.2002 i-bologna - covo(w/ styrofoam) 05.05.2002 i-treviso/tarzo - jumpin' (w/ styrofoam) 06.05.2002 i-roma - classico (w/ styrofoam) 07.05.2002 i-perugia - sala dei notari (w/ styrofoam) 05.06.2002 f-paris elysee - monmatre (w/ b fleischmann) 06.06.2002 lu-luxembourg - den atelier (w/ b fleischmann) 07.06.2002 d-dessau - melt open air 22.06.2002 d-neuhausen - southside festival 23.06.2002 d-scheessel - hurricane festival 07.07.2002 f-belfort - eurockeennes festival 08.07.2002 ch-montreux - montreux jazz festival 25.07.2002 ch-nyon - paleo festival 26.07.2002 ch-nyon - paleo festival 27.07.2002 f-clergoux - festival du chateau de sedieres 02.08.2002 e-benicassim - benicassim festival 10.08.2002 d-rees-haldern - halderner open air 11.08.2002 f-st. malo - la route du rock styrofoam (morr music) 03.05 florence, i 04.05 bologna, i, covo 05.05 treviso/tarvo, i, jumpin 06.05 roma, i, classico :: all italian dates with the notwist :: 09.05 zichem, b, den hemel (with kreidler) 11.05 ghent, b, de unit warp magic bus tour (warp) plaid + richard divine + phoenecia + luke vibert + russel hasswell + other warp guest 08.05. phonodrom hamburg 09.05. stadtgarten köln 10.05. scheune dresden 11.05. volksbühne berlin *** vs morr music + cco 12.05. pathos münchen 14.05. flex wien (a) tbc lali puna (morr music) 07.06. melt! open air dessau 08.06. cosmopolis festival lissabon (p) 14.06. sonar festival barcelona (sp) 19.07. b 1 moskau (gus) 20.07. red club petersburg (gus) couch (kitty-yo) 13.07 dour festival dour (b) múm (fat cat) 1-jun-2002 sat hasselt zaal belgie belgium 2-jun-2002 sun brussels ab belgium 3-jun-2002 mon france 4-jun-2002 tue paris la nuvo casino france tbc 5-jun-2002 wed france 6-jun-2002 thu france 7-jun-2002 fri france 8-jun-2002 sat amsterdam paradiso holland tbc 11-jun-2002 tue schorndorf manufactur germany 12-jun-2002 wed koeln gebaeude 9 germany 13-jun-2002 thu copenhagen rust denmark 14-jun-2002 fri hamburg schlachthof germany 15-jun-2002 sat berlin knaack germany 16-jun-2002 sun dresden star club germany 17-jun-2002 mon nuernberg k4 germany 18-jun-2002 tue 19-jun-2002 wed muenchen feierwerk germany 20-jun-2002 thu basel nt-areal switzerland 21-jun-2002 fri martigny chateau festival switzerland 22-jun-2002 sat lucerne boa switzerland 23-jun-2002 sun 24-jun-2002 mon ferrara stotto di stelle italy 25-jun-2002 tue fortezza italy 26-jun-2002 wed jumpin' italy 27-jun-2002 thu 28-jun-2002 fri roskilde - blue tent (2500 cap) denmark +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ morr music po box 550141 10371 berlin morr music raumerstraße 39 10437 berlin fon +49-30-44052699 fax +49-30-44044791 info@morrmusic.com www.morrmusic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
