Censorship in the US................... Primal Scream's new album could be blacklisted in the US, according to reports. The album contains a track call Bomb The Pentagon, which criticises America's foreign policy. It was written and premiered live shortly before the September 11 attacks. This has nothing to do with "censorship in the US". They said blacklist---basically meaning unmarketable I would assume (they have no label in the US and no one would want to pick them up). Its unfortunate UK media sources would run a story to insinuate there is some evil force (blacklisting? must be a government agency!) keeping art unheard in US, especially considering the British government has been censoring art there for quite some time. The only force keeping Primal Scream down in the US is pure economics. At 10:15 AM 4/10/2002 +0100, you wrote:

the word "Blacklisted" is probably most well known from the McCarthy era, you'd hardly call the fucked up actions of the movie business in those days "pure economics" - it WAS censorship, why would they mean anything different by it here? skism.

XTRMNTR did come out on astralwerk but they were dropped due to apparent low sales --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

So is the article suggesting that Primal Scream is being talked about in a HUAAC and Aware will blacklist them? No. So how are they being "blacklisted" at all? To suggest that Americans think that primal scream should be squelched because we think they are communists or something is,....dumb. I see that the NME story is similarly devoid of facts: http://www.nme.com/news/101350.htm Basically the story stays "primal scream has a controversially themed track on their new album. I bet it will get banned in the states!" with no reason for saying this--no mention of any group taking action to even try and make it have a hard time to get released through protests or etc. Not even to speak of, I don't know the logistics of how a piece of music would go about being"banned" in the states. How would that work? What American government agency will "ban" it (akin to the BBFC in the UK which one could say does ban films there)? Maybe Wal-mart would not carry it....but does that mean it has been "banned"??? At 05:47 PM 4/10/2002 +0100, you wrote:

I wasn't suggesting Americans were fucked up fascits or anything, just that I wouldn't be suprised if the music industry were. skism...
