Wow. What a lot of post! The system here in Brum was down on Friday so when I came in this a.m. there were no less than 200 messages waiting - the joys of the virtual village, eh :) :) Just thought I'd add my two penn'orth to a couple of threads :) Somebody mentioned finding out how many musicians we have on the list (and who they are). I'd certainly be interested to know - not out of any sense of morbid curiosity, but just so I have some more names to look for in my freindly neighbourhood record shop. A compilation CD sounds like an excellent idea. I can't contribute :( but I'd love a copy. re people over 40 into IDM: a friend of mine introduced his father (52) to IDM via the "Feed Your Head" Planet Dog comp and this Christmas my family veg'ed out (or should that be chilled out?:)) after lunch to UFOrb, Eno's Apollo soundtrack and AI1. 'later Ade :)

Yo, I have many matters to discuss: 1)Does anyone know what happened to Req (erstwhile?) of Skint records? He had an album slated for summer 2001 release called 'Car Paint Scheme', but appears to have vanished from the face of the earth. There was a rumbling about a single with Kid Acne... His website doesn't give many clues. I sent a post to the moderated list on this note, but they're all bastards and didn't help. Bloody Canadians... 2)I'm looking for a list similar to this one dealing in hip-hop (preferably not too overground - Kool Keith, Mr Lif, stuff like that?). Anyone got any clues? Also, a drum and bass one would be nice; again, none of the cheese that seems to be creeping back into it these days - Teebee, Dom & Roland etc is my cup of char. 3)On that note, I just got 'Properties' by Quoit, which is Mick Harris doing industrial d&b - very nice indeed. If anyone liked the stuff he did with Eraldo Bernocchi I can totally recommend it. What's our favourite Brummie been up to? The last thing I got got was 'Greetings From Birmingham', which was his trademark industrial hip hop stuff. Slighly eclipsed by the superior remixes by Surgeon and Xingu Hill, I thought. Does he have any material with the same raw percussion but something a little more melodic than a creaking door? 4)What label is the Machine Drum album on? Can you get it on vinyl? 5) Can anyone recommend any free sites where I can download Spoken Word samples (the kind you might play over mixing)? 6) The 'Now Thing' compilation on Mo' Wax completely blew my mind and was by far the best thing I heard last year (I thought, contrary, it would seem, to all of you, that 2001 was a pretty crap year in music, by the way). Can anyone list any similar releases which aren't impossible to get? I think that's about enough to be getting on with. Cheers, peeps, Poppa. marciablaine.cjb.net forthcoming: self titled e.p. on Dalriada inclusion on Benbecula "Music Volume 2" 'Ned Rites' inclusion on Law & Auder "I Am:Bient" 'Routed To The Spot' Struktur 'Minraud' _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

1) Req had a very nice album coming out on Warp next month. 14 tracks of the lofi hiphop sound we all know. uh, if we know req. The collaboration with kid acne (himself) is called rap traffic and is out now on invisible spies. http://www.invisiblespies.com --- i haven't had a chance to check it, but it was highly recommended by the tasteful folks at pelicanneck not too long ago. 2) Whenever i listen to hip hop, it's usally the semi-underground east coast style rap. My faves are common, taleb qweli, mos def, the roots. the blackstar album by mos def and taleb qweli has to be the best hip-hop record i have in my possession. I'm really looking forward to the followup, out sometime this year, not sure when. Pick it up, everyone. 4) Machine drum is on merck http://www.m3rck.net .. a vinyl version of now you know was released a couple months ago. his half the battle 12" is coming out soon and has some beautiful remixes by the likes of proem, brothomstates, and ilkae. jeff acre ----- Original Message ----- From: "production unit" <productionunit@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, February 08, 2002 3:21 PM Subject: [idm] lots of things
