You're right, of course. My initial point was just
that there can be suggestions of music that is
generally similar in style, like, it reads the same
when described with words - and then there can be
suggestions of music that is tightly similar in style
and/or feel, in that it produces the same responses in
the listener.
I usually think the latter are more useful than the
former, but not always, of course, and it's all good.
Anyway, with the best stuff, there's nothing like it
except other works by the same artist, of course!

Yes, everyone keeps saying so. I haven't listened to
any of those artists enough to really judge them,
though I have been meaning to revisit them and try to
see if I can hear in them what everyone else seems to
hear.
I was unsuccessfully trying to illustrate the
difference in styles between these artists and
Autechre's Confield, just because I felt that if I
just wrote in and asked for "more stuff like Confield"
I would get a bunch of suggestions in the vein of
Delay and Fennesz, etc, when I'm already rudimentally
familiar with those artists and they're not at all
what I'm looking for right now. Anyway, that's my
problem, not yours...

Or at least to just be themselves, which is even
better.

I would agree with that. Thanks for the reply, and
while I'll add the Phthal-similar suggestions made by
the other dude to my "try out someday" list, what I'll
probably do for now is just go straight back to
Confield and get more out of this album rather than
spreading my interest thinner across more, less
interesting (to me) albums.
Quality over quantity, that old biddy...
sorry to bother everyone so much today - keep enjoying
the tunes, or lack thereof if that's your thing :)
