I noticed that the Tomlab & Tomlab sublabel Softl have been busy lately. are there any reviews on their recent output? i'm especially interested in the tomlab & audio dregs releases. i believe those labels are similar in many ways and a collaborative release should show that. anyway, any reviews or comments on the following are eagerly anticipated. . For Friends - Tomlab vs Audio Dregs comp cd (Tomlab) . Casiotone for the Painfully Along: Pocket Symphonies... cd (Tomlab) . Aki Onda: precious moments cd (Softl) . I've had a pre-mastered CD-R of this release for a couple of months now, and it's very, very nice stuff. A really excellent cross-section of what both of these labels specialize in - interesting & melodic electronics with an experimental edge. Recommended.

Again, I've been listening to a CD-R of this for a couple of months, but I'm still not sure what I think of it. It's pretty lo-fi - almost painfully so in places - but oddly pretty as well. A lot of vocals, which may bother some people. Mutant electro-pop, I guess you could call it. after enjoying Inkblot and John Sheffield's recent performances at RecordCamp i was quite happy to see an AudioDregs/Tomlab comp for $6 waiting at OM for me... i've been pleasantly surprised by the overall warm nature of this comp. less cold and artsy than i had anticipated, and more uppity beats than expected. overall it has a fun home-made aesthetic to it. Carpet Musics track is excellent, mixing electronics and organics happily. :dz:, Ear Weego, Sheffield, Aeron and Sandra... lots of really nice surprises here. good for the mind and heart alike. i can't stop playing the Grace Period track. a motivating and warming drum loop with killer fills. cant get enough of that love baby. and at $6 it's fit for recession financial woes! nat a new home for indie rock and electronics http://www.littlefurythings.com

The Aki Onda disc is high in my lists for 2001 combining weird soundscapes with slight elements of jazz, fingerpicking guitars and smart electronics bcking everything up. The entire disc is one of eternal beauty. You can't help being focussed to listen to this record, instead of just being there in the background as wallpaper. Haven't listen too much to Yoshido's disc yet since Aki cd is always in, but when i come to terms with this, i'll let you know.
