Hrm, what do you guys think of this (those of you who have heard it). Honestly I'm disapointed. On the one hand, I'm happy that it's slower and dubby and not RHs jackhammer audio assault. It's sort of the after 6am parts of his DE909 sets when things get fun, but OTOH The fact that the CD is outlined as a dubby work, and RH gives each loop, or theme only 2 minutes max of time in the mix, sort of kills what i love about deep music - taking a theme and playing for 5+ minutes at a time with little or no variation, so the groove (or whatever) just gets stuck in your head. It's like the MTV version of dub. hah Secondly, b/c the mix was made in software, there's a certain live PA feel to it as a whole. It's almost too clean and too continuous. There's a funk that's gone. I have to contrast this mix with the The Button DOwn Mind of Dan Bell cuz the music is very similar. The dan bell mix is one of my favorite mixes. Even tho there are some slips in the DB mix, and maybe some track selections that are a touch questionable, he keeps it deep and maintains the funk. I hope this doesn't sound too negative. But sometimes people get too wrapped up in the process and sort of loose sight of the musicality of a work. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
