Some may remember a while back (maybe even a couple of years?!) there was a big on-list argument caused by British music critic Simon Reynolds ripping strips off IDM music. I was intrigued to read his latest piece (his unfaves of 2000), which also features a list of what he rates highly from 2001 so far. The list includes Matmos, Herbert, 'Staedtizism 2', and "bubbling under" includes mention of To Rococo Rot & I-Sound, Chris Clark, Hellfish, Manitoba, 'Clicks and Cuts 2', the 'Hypercity' mix on Force Tracks and so on. I guess like me he's not much of a fan of the sound that most people think defines IDM, but heaps of the above strikes me as very this- listy stuff. The complete list as at the bottom of the following page: http://members.aol.com/blissout/unfaves2000.htm Michael np.
