While I still find much of Mr. Jenkinson's work classic or great, parts of each of his albums have always struck me as mediocre filler, and I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who just finds his, um, schtick getting a bit boring lately. Specifically, "Selection Sixteen" had a couple of nice moments but was mostly disappointing, and now that I've heard "Go Plastic" a couple of times, I have to say it's an even bigger yawn fest. I mean, What I liked about Squarepusher (and Aphex, tho he hasn't done anything lately) were the ability to make poppy, really enjoyable stuff, and yet infect it with insanely amazing beats and wacked out craziness. It was out there, but it was also poppy and enjoyable at the same time. I mean, that's just the definition of Squarepusher - even his Rotted/Mindphone stuff is somewhat poppy. This latest stuff is just fucked up for the sake of being fucked up. Some nice breaks, but boring. Puts me to sleep and gives me a headache at the same time. So unnecessary. I guess Warp in 2001 is just getting a little too cerebral for my tastes. Oh well, it doesn't matter. Now I *know* I'm gonna sell my August 25 Sqpshr/Plaid tickets to someone on this list. -Adam __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
