Hi, I seem to rememeber reading that dj Krust (full cycle) was in soul coughing - what exactly was his involvement? I'm intrigued.

I never heard... and, infact, you intriged me... so I did a little searching... I know that Soul Coughing did a collaboration with "the Reprazent guys"... but it turns out that DJ Krust toured with them at some point, opening some shows for them. When I saw them at the Metro I arrived quite late and therefore did not get to hear the opening act, if there was one. Feb. 13 at the Edge, Palo Alto MC Dynamite and DJ Krust opened the show with a dynamic display of DJed jungle and rhythmic toasting. I was amazed at the dedication of Soul Coughing's fans. They knew all the tunes front and back, and not just the single ... De Gli Antoni, I discovered, is still at work... he scored a short film "Ashes to Ashes." http://www.ashestoashes.net has outtakes that you can stream or download. I suggest: Elaine Farkass Theme... http://www.ashestoashes.net/film-synopsis.html /<dVh>\ now listening to: "doormouse unibomber" #5 anyone know anything about the rivalry between these two? IE "Unibomber ate a Donkey Dick E.P." ??? Dan the Doormouse Kicks ASS!!! anyone wanna share some info/tracks? was the show you mention below at the edge about 4 years ago? if so, i was there, and wow, i thought the opening act (some mc and a dj) sucked ass at the time. it must have been, 'cause now that i think of it, it was drum&bass/jungly stuff (which i still don't like much even now). i remember the entire audience booing them, and sitting down, refusing to dance. we were waiting for soul coughing to come on, and it seemed as though the opener went on forEVER. it seemed a poor choice of opening acts, but when i heard 'el oso' i understood why they'd been chosen. and el oso is definitely my least favorite soul coughing album. -rachel On Thu, 07 June 2001, Duncan Krostue wrote:

Their actual cd's definitely had a decline in quality over the years. They ended up just making dance music with an mc (doughty) repeating strange lyrics monotonously over the top, instead of actually fitting everything together with amazing style and intelligence on the first album. People on the list who appreciate the more "natural" sounds on Ninja Tune, or who like Red Snapper, would probably enjoy the first Soul Coughing album, Ruby Vroom. Avoid the other two. It's too bad, because if they had more stuff like Ruby Vroom, or had decided to pursue stranger stuff instead of turning into Pop, they'd probably have more IDM-L fringe benefits, a la Radiohead. cheers, /derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- now updated daily --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

this is all backwards to me. soul coughing didn't put out a bad record and apart from true dreams of wichita and screenwriters blues i prefer irresistible bliss and el oso over ruby vroom. love fenris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Really? To me, they turned into Alanis, coming up with one catchy line and just changing the last word or so, instead of trying to write songs. Granted, it's much easier to dance to their later stuff, but it sounds... i don't know... "overproduced" to me :D ------- eggytoast.com ------- now updated daily --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
