I don't know about any of you, but so far I've found that I generally have
about as much in common with people who share certain interests (ie IDM) as
I do with those who don't. Just because you happen to like IDM, does not
mean that you're going to share my opinion as to what good literature or
movies are. I used to be constantly suprised at my friends who didn't like
music or books I did, but who could list of my favourite movies as theirs.
And likewise I know people with shite (IMHO) taste in movies who love the
same books as me.
Do you think there are fewer stupid people who listen to IDM than there are
that listen to other genres of music? I would direct you to look at the
signal to noise ratio on this list as an indicator that perhaps we're not as
enlightened as we sometimes think we are. We're not that special; we just
like the same music. And to say that certain people throughout history
wouldn't like rap, or country, or mtv shit is an absurdly stupid excercise,
if only for its futility.
But trying to debate who is more intelligent, or has better taste out of any
group of people is pointless. It's all relative anyhow.
Anyhow, I don't think rap & idm are mutually exclusive, but as with all
things, YMMV (your milage may vary).
