dude. i can't wait. the Orb/KLF were my entry point into "edgy electronic dance" (some call it IDM) and i think that if any groups influence shows up in my own stuff it's the orb... i love the combination of astro/science and humor on Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld ... that album will always be in my permanent top ten just for the psychological bond i have with it... no other "idm" style band utilizes humor in the same way as the Orb ... mouse on mars does a bit, squarepusher maybe a little, aphex too, but i used to laugh myself to shivvering stoner fragments listening to U.F.Orb and that prank phone call... According to the upcoming release listings at sirencd.com (which are generally pretty accurate), The Orb's "Cydonia" album is scheduled for UK release on October 23rd. I assume other countries will see it out around the same time. well, i have everything the orb has put out and the new album is good. the female vocal tracks caught me off guard at first, (i generally don't like obvious pop) but closer listening revealed more underneath. the reggae and jungle track is awesome and the ambient bits are perfect and light. like a nice sunny afternoon. it's difficult listening, or even head-musik (see the new richard kirk or jan jelnek, or esp. ryoji ideda for that), but very much a pleasure. or so i think but most people will slag it as they are no longer flavour of the month. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hello. Well, I like it. Orb goes pop, with a few back references to their earlier stuff. Very neat production work, cunning mixes. It certainly won't be to everyone's tastes, but if you like well-produced electronic music with pop sensibilities, then you'll get a kick out of it. Of course Live 93 is cool. That's truly cool. But Adventures beyond the ultraworld has my vote. and who claimed Orbus Terrarum was a record? This was as shocker. I hope Cydonia is not in the same vein. Why not check out Ambient Meditations 2? Orbus Terranus was not really a shocker, it even has a really cool packaging ( the original one ) I think that what made people questioned themselves about the Orb, was the "Pomme Fritz" mini CD ...
