In some cases yes. Major Label 18.98 list price is a bit excessive when you
consider the sheer volume of what's selling on some of these record.
14.98 or 15.98 list I think is fair and justified. All in after production,
manufacturing, marketing, overhead, and all the other expenses of selling a
record that price leaves the artist making about $2 and the label making
about $2 (well if artist is in good 50/50 contract or 20% of distibutor
income deal) People to often use the "well it's only $1.50 to make a CD, why
am I paying $15" argument. You can't judge on physical unit price. If you
did that a pair of shoes should cost you $5. People just get all weird when
it involves "intellectual property". A lot of books I buy cost more then
CD's and no one seems to complain about that. Probably becuase they can't be
downloaded in tidy formats.
