I just hate it when records like this are released. You spend endless
hours with the computer tweaking and tweaking your sounds and rhythms,
layering each element on top of another with minuscule precisicion, tweak
some more, add parts and render - and then someone releases a record with
tracks that make yours sound like a five year old playing a recorder.
I mean - the first release on Yunx Recordings sounds like what I'm
trying to create, only tenfold better. I haven't even listened through the
record yet, I'm now at ``Beavhead''. ``Cordless'' is bliss carved on
vinyl, minimal melodies hanging from a ledge of soft pads and finely
crafted rhythm. ``Beavhead'' is more breaky and funky, a lot more like the
first Yunx release on Void, with basic melody structure somewhat similar
to Plaid's, yet distinct. ``Comol'' is an electronic jazz fusion thing,
meshing together the best electronic jazz elements also heard on Kirk
DeGiorgio's and Steve Pickton's releases, not forgetting the heritage of
machines either. It doesn't try to sound like real jazz - a good thing -
the involvement of machines are plain to hear. Almost epic at just three
seconds over seven minutes. ``Molp'' has a broken rhythm, a beautiful base
melody and the almost trademark bleepy Yunx analogue synth melody. More
clear chord stabs give the track even more structure - this is really
where Yunx excels, what I really loved on the Void 12".
Get it. Now. I mean it.
As for Future Beat Alliance's ``Audio Photos'' on Delsin - fabulous. Are
other Delsin releases like this? I haven't been paying too much attention
if they are. But the FBA release is brilliant. While I've been writing
this I've listened it through, and it is really almost as good as the Yunx
- what do you expect, they both had their first releases on Void - one of
my favourite (yet extinct) labels.
Others that I just got today (all not necessary on-topic in here):
SX12003 Pollon - ``Electratech'' (Scopex 12")
PP031 Koolaking - ``Coolhand Remixes'' (Pure Plastic 12")
UXB004 Koolaking - ``Coolhand'' (Unexplored Beats 12")
DETA004 Querida - ``Racket/The Riot Capsule'' (Deta 12")
CBX004 Surgeon - ``Midnight Club Tracks I'' (Counterbalance 12")
I also finally got the last missing piece from my Pure Plastic
collection, Koolaking's ``One Lating'' (PP021). Funny to get three
Koolaking records inside just two days. The Plaid remix alone is worth
getting the record. I also got a promo release of Blueprint BP05 with one
different track than the official release. Not a very stunning one, but
nevertheless quite unique. A good addition to my already complete
Blueprint collection (I'm such a bag of brags, sorry).
Cheers,
