one thing that has me confused is how everyone has been raving about rdj's "butchering" of old songs in his sets. this seems relatively odd considering that v/vm hardly gets noticed and gets 5-6 people at their shows (or sorry, that's how many people are left at the end). does anyone else find this disheartening? i don't want to turn this into a big angry thread but i was just wondering if anyone else has picked up on this. btw, v/vm rules. shaun np: john cage - fontana mix (40 years old and still more advanced than what lots of guys today can put out) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

would you really compare 'fontana mix' with idm ? it's probably closer to spooky's chaotic culture-collages or the undying electroacoustic scene, if we're thinking of 'what guys today can put out'. and i don't know how 'advanced' it is, aside from that it did advance a good deal away from what people expected of music ; cage might say that it was about as unadvanced as possible, leaning towards bizarre and accidental. i'm a big fan of his thinking, but in terms of music history, i think of him more as a necessary deviant rather than a shining example of what music should be. i'm just checking your namedropping, maybe you already agree with me. .af. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think that you are all pretentious bastards trying to drop names and see who's got the biggest prick (so to speak) ;) This list really cracks me up some time. Can't you just liten to something without analyzing it to death? Or at least keep your analysis to yourself, unless you happen to be writing a thesis for a music class. And even then, we don't want to hear about it ;) It's kinda like taking a dump and then taking a picture and posting it to the list. I think Jerking off (100's of years old and still more advanced than what lots of guys today can put out) Jerking off is a lot like IDM. peace, --AL

(i'm not attacking either artist...i'm just trying to make a point) oh wait, i'm just trying to "sound cool, man" yeah....cowabunga rad bodacious .shaun. (are the periods put before and after "s" and "n" pretentious as well?) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
