Just picked up John Tejada - The Matrix of Us out now on Defocus. It's lovely! Gorgeous, soulful, funky melodies. Up to the usual high Defocus standard. I got Little Green Lights and Four Inch Faders a while ago and despite the fact theat it was pretty well-recieved and said in some quarters to be Black-Doggish, I was never really too impressed. I felt it was so much what I might have expected that I hardly need listen to it. What do you all reckon though, should I have more patience with it? In contrast, this new one grabbed me right away. It comes highly recommended - from me anyway. And this time it really does remind me of Black Dog. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the vinyl version of the album has all of the CD tracks that aren't on the preview 12". So if you already have the 12", just get the LP and you should have everything. Hmm... I haven't really enjoyed any of the Defocus releases so far, at least not enough to buy any of them. I do like what I've heard of John Tejada in the past, and I also like the sound of the press info I've seen. I particularly enjoy his more downbeat and hip-hop influenced stuff, including his production work with Divine Styler. Is there anywhere I could hear some snippets? Alternatively, is anyone out there willing to say "given all of that, you will love this" and mean it? :-) Michael np. Here are the info and tracklistings as from Bent Crayons mailouts. Afraid I might be putting Lance out of work :) JOHN TEJADA -A Matrix Of Us CD/LP John Tejada has worked with R&S, 7th City, Plug Research, Mosaic, A13 and his own label Palette. On his debut LP for Defocus he is also working with his Mum (she's a opera singer!) and Mo Wax's Divine Styler. John's music covers chilled breaks, deep techno, downtempo, ambient moods, all in a Defocus style. Excellent reviews will appear in November/Decmber issues of The Wire, 7 Magazine, Jockey Slut, Muzik, Mixmag, Future Music, Wax, Urb and X Fade. 'Genetical love' has already become a firm fav of Giles Peterson. there are at least 4 tracks of of this funky hip-hop inspired stuff. it's quite good, although i wish the poetry wasn't so fluffy. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
