Hello. Recently, I found myself in the position of introducing a friend to the wonderful world of IDM. His current interest in electronic music sort of begins and ends with the likes of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. Well, that's where I began about 14 years ago. Anyway, here is the track listing for the four MDs I knocked up for him, just for curiosity's sake. I basically just wrote down a long list of artists who came to mind and (with one or two exceptions) recorded one track from each. There were loads I had to leave off otherwise I'd have been recording these things forever. If I did these discs all over again, I'd probably choose completely different tracks. I deliberately made sure not to go for anything too extreme (I suspect throwing in some v/vm and too much Mille Plateaux would have scared him off). However, I threw in a bit of Pole and Vladislav Delay just to test the water a bit. id :: disc.1 rt :: 79m 54s tx :: bola - "vespers" aphex twin - "acrid avid jam shred" plaid - "choke and fly" derrick may - "icon (montage mix)" arovane - "amine" larry heard - "racing through the mist" monolake - "abundance" bjork - "alarm call (radio mix)" node - "olivine" orb - "asylum (7" edit)" sun electric - "alvir" fuse - "dimension intrusion" plod - "what happens to the hole when the cheese is gone?" id :: disc.2 rt :: 79m 33s tx :: autechre - "montreal" laika - "uneasy" lfo - "shut down" cj bolland - "nec plus ultra" nitin sawhney - "letting go" vladislav delay - "synkopoint" tangerine dream - "kiew mission" jega - "phalanx" gus gus - "blue mug" two lone swordsmen - "no red stopping" lamb - "god bless" mouse on mars - "tux & damask" id :: disc.3 rt :: 79m 28s tx :: ozric tentacles - "waterfall city" eat static - "kryll" orb - "s.a.l.t." future sound of london - "my kingdom (parts 1-4)" vangelis - "pina, nina, santa maria" underworld - "cups" id :: disc.4 rt :: 78m 45s tx :: chris de luca - "two" aemic - "adsl" michael fakesch - "rand va" funkstorung - "try dried frogs" pole - "strand" b12 - "dave brubeck" boards of canada - "wildlife analysis/an eagle in your mind" mira calix - "skin with me" mum - "sunday night just keeps on rolling" orbital - "are we here?" seefeel - "gatha" the beatles - "tomorrow never knows" -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i found that the best way to get people into IDM was to play 'em some V/VM! Especially the Cilla Black suprise suprise number.. it sounds nasty, but my friend was under the impression that idm type stuff was cold and boring.. so to find something that made her laugh really turned her on! then you can play 'em the max tundras and bogdan exploits. -jo- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Talking of which, gotta love that new Max Tundra "Ink Me" track. Hilarious video too -- which, in case you haven't seen it, basically comprises of him visiting his grandparents, playing the "Ink Me" track on their gramophone and sitting back to watch their reaction over the next three minutes. Great stuff! -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Our friend Matt Barnhart did a remix of Fluoroscopic Kid's "Soft Drink Jihad" along these lines. Apparently he's related to a fireman of some sort. So he took the song to the fire station, played it for his relative and the relative's friends and then recorded their reactions. Unfortunately, record producer that he is, it's hidden somewhere on an anonymous DAT and he can't find it, despite repeated whines that he should. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
