review: STYROFOAM "The Point_Misser" (Morr Music) The small German label Morr Music just gets better with each new release. Styrofoam, apparently a guy from Belgium (also known as Tin Foil Star), impresses with a very well crafted disc. Musical references are the usual suspects: Autechre, Boards of Canada, Black Dog/Plaid... but Styrofoam has got ideas of his own, too. And definitely funnier song titles (Off Is Not a Speed). The Point_Misser is a relatively calm album, with several tunes where the crunchy beats have a submissive role. With its small melodies and instances of distorted song the album has a very warm feeling in the middle of all the digital. One of this years best albums. Very nice cover by Jan Kruse, too. hs _________________________________ it's art...but is it interesting? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I have a feeling this has been asked before, but I'm interested in a Styrofoam discog (Lance ?). Is the track on the "Cashier Escape Route" comp indicative of his work in general ? You are right Johan, if I recall correctly I had already recommended Tin Foil Star a couple of times. Let's do it again, Tin Foil Star gave us very good, melancholic music. philippe Bovine Life "social electrics" [bleep 06]______September 2001 Award winning UK film maker / digital artist Chris Dooks was known for his film work on musicians such as Scanner for The South Bank Show, to tiny bedroom labels in the middle of nowhere. His first album introduces some solo works, and besides some collaborations with Kohn, Third Eye Foundation, Future Pilot Aka, and artists from labels such as Mego (Alku), Leaf (Ylyptyk), Janek Schaefer, Diskono... If you've ever been put on hold, you'll know that the tune they play down the telephone is a waste of telecommunications ! Not so with Chris’s modem adventures. Bovine Life has been jamming through the modem, speaking in electronic tongues, secreting sounds that vary from being immersed in amniotic fluid, right through to searing bleeps that would make any nation stand to attention ! Enhanced CD features a short movie by Chris Dooks. http://www.bip-hop.com
