Ok, more new release news involving SND: The next release on SND's own Blir label will be a collaborative ep with Rastermusic/ Mille Plateaux/12k artist Komet (aka Frank Bretschneider). Here is the writeup on this match made in heaven... SND/Komet: Premium Leisure 12" (Blir 02) Second release on SND's 'Premium Leisure' sub-label - this time collaborating with Mille Plateaux's Frank Bretschneider. But the collaboration here - with Bretschneider under his Komet moniker - takes on a slightly different approach to the main thread of collaborations in the electronic field. Tracks were not sent back and forth between the artists, and they did not share the same studio space. Instead, Bretschneider provided SND's Mark Fell and Mat Steel with some Sound Patches for their Nord module and by doing so gave them a framework of sound within which to apply their compositional skills. Listening to the four tracks here exemplifies the success of the experiment. What we have are the warm tones and bass keys typified on much of Bretschneider's work, but choreographed with the groove-led, almost technofied sense of rhythm that has made so much of SND's work captivating. By restricting the sound sources available to them, Bretschneider has imposed his own impetus, his own 'starting-off' point, and in return has left the process to develop beyond his reach. This is a truly stunning EP, not so much interested in clicks and cuts, but, rather, in the development of microscopic sound sources into something accessible and warm. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
