As you may already know, John C. Wilson runs the
Mouthmoth record label based in Scotland. He has
released material under the Frog Pocket (experimental
electronics with tiny melodies) moniker, and his tracks
have appeared on Autumn Records as well.
They've just released their third release which is a
compilation of 4 tracks on a nicely packaged 7inch
with hand crafted artwork by Carol Meldrum. You might
recognize Asterisk's "13/8 version 2" track that appeared
on the '13/8 ep' on Autumn04. Well this tune makes
an appearance on "Mothballs" along side Frog Pocket's
"Egg Hoek", Ayr Unit's "Quorthon (ii)" and Snotra's "Robins".
So far Asterisk (aka Greg Davis) is the standout track.
The others rely on noisy electronics with sampled effects,
cute melodies & sharp beats which reminds me of the
Underscore 'Shift-Minus" 7inch series w/o the huge chunks
of sonic debris.
Check the websites below for more information. "Mothballs"
is limited to 100 copies and available in Glasgow shops
as of December 21st. You can email John Wilson and
purchase this direct from him for £2.01 + p&p (75p for UK,
£1.25 for Europe, £1.55 elsewhere) at i_am_john@hotmail.com.
Mouthmoth are currently lining up artists who are interested
in contributing to "Mothballs Vol.2", so there's more to look
forward to..
