Various: Aural Offal Waffle
Ten Pints Of Bitter
And A Bag Of Pork Scratchings
(V/Vm TEST Records OFFAL01)
Greatest party record of the coming millenium.
Also excellent for housework and the moral
education of our nation's youth. V/Vm's
treatment specialists have progressed beyond
the audiomulching, the sonic decimating, and
the original noise music standby of triple
overdrive. Now in vogue is the act of taking
absolutely horrid pop banalities and running
the mess through a delay unit. Hurrah!
Duchamp would be proud.
Various: Influences, Classics
(Warp 10+1, Warp 10+2)
What this pair of records comes down to is
this: In 1992, a gang of white British prats
were accused of innovations they did not
commit. IDM fans not possessing a Detroit,
Chicago or Sheffield Bleep fetish should
probably avoid this madness. I got a kick out
of 'Influences' because I did the math and
realized this stuff was being produced when I
was eight years old. "Classics" just reminded
me of the 909-driven silliness I was
listening to in high school and as such wore
out quickly (I FF'd the majority of the
tracks, and I _like_ LFO). Listening for
correlations between the "Influences" and the
early Warp material I know and love produced
some interesting revelations- for example,
Aphex was/is more of a compression freak than
whiz kid. Those Warp guys sure are brave.
