actually now i think about it, the Caretaker CD is the best VVM release; the 606 release is a close 2nd. While im vocal, here's some thoughts on some releases that dont seem to have got much talk; *Pan Sonic/Charlemagne Palestine - Mort Aux Vaches - Absolutely excellent drone piece split seemingly arbitrarily into tracks, that lasts for an hour and does nothing except build up with increasingly disturbing clanking noises in the background. *Pocket Monster remixes on Lux Nigra - Surprised no-ones mentioned this as it features idm-golden-boy Arovane, but that aside this is top-notch stuff, somewhere in between Musik Aus Strom and Chain Reaction (actually quite similar to some Din stuff) and darker than the No Music remixes. Best of the lot is Thaddi's techno tinged one, but they're all good. *Herr Brinkmann - Susi/Trixi, Ulla/Vera, Wanda/Xenia - Dont know whether anyone is still following or even caring about these but me anymore; but these are all at the peak of his stuff quality wise; S/T is acidic, a bit like the Christian/Daniel Ernst one, U/V has a Latin tinge to it with outrageously cheesy piano, and W/X is closest to "pure" Brinkmann with a slightly harder feel. All good, with W/X coming out slightly on top. However, i would reccomend all but the most hardened of noodly jazz fans to avoid his "secret" Jim Ingrams 12" like the plague as it is quite frankly unbelievable shite. More tomorrow. ________________________________________________________ "I believe in the modern world. I believe in the automobile, and the Charleston, and the dry martini.
