These two are quoted in the same breath. I have _fsck_ and would like to know whether Fennesz is similar sounding? Hotel Paral.lel has long been on my Wants list - if I *never* listen to _fsck_, will I want to listen to Fennesz? I *

Well, I think fsck is a masterpiece, but Hotel Paral.lel is pretty damn great too. It's probably the best record on Mego. There are definitely similarities in the types of sounds used, but H.P. tends to be more static & droney and uses the occasional melody (!). I think Fennesz's masterpiece is the "Fennesz Plays" single though. That one's a must. Amazing ! Pita and General Magic are also worth checking out if you're into the Mego sound. Andrei

I second most of the above (though I don't necessarily think Hotel || lives up to the hype, a shortcoming that "Plays" renders pretty moot). However, if Hotel Parallel is "probably the best record on Mego," what does that make "Fennesz Plays"? Chopped liver? Anyway, even though Fennesz and Farmers Manual are often spoken of in the same breath, I think the need to compulsively compare them is only slightly more useful as comparing Aphex Twin and Autechre because they were both on Warp. Personally, I think that Seefeel affinity is a more telling indicator of whether a seat awaits you on the Fennesz Express. -rob

i suppose that a "quick" listen to both of these discs will have them being similar, but careful listening will reveal that these 2 are quite different. HOTEL PARAL.LEL is in my opinion one of the most engaging, amazing, and important experimental releases in recent years. if you do not have it you should. like most of fennesz's material, it contains astoundingly deep levels of composition, melody, and editing - really masterful structures at work. and most of the source material is again from guitar. i don't listen to FSCK much myself, but this fennesz disc is a repeat listener for sure. m/j At 10:20 AM 8/30/99 +0200, you wrote: From Pelicanneck's list:

I should have said the best full length album on Mego. "Fennesz Plays" IS the best RELEASE on Mego IMO. Andrei
