Rapoon is excellent... very very much so. I especially like Just Say the Faith... Never dug Schutze so much but I have not heard that disc - how does it compare to the trilogy (one of them was Site Anubis... don't remember the other names). Some others comments/suggestions... I think the most obvious answers that completely skipped my mind earlier are: Lustmord/Robert Rich - Stalker Nurse with Wound - Soliloquoy for Lilith. The NWW is better, but both are absolutely essentials I think... Also while I am a _huge_ mick harris fan, I really don't like his collaboration with Laswell someone brought up... dull. His disc with Plotkin is only OK and not warm by any stretch. Oh yeah, the other obvious answer that I forgot is Daniel Menche... especially the track on Shiroseasons (4 artist split cd - k. mizutani, aube, small cruel party, and menche). like muffled leaves. Stunning. And one more essential - Mika Vainio - Onko if only for the last track, which is the best ambient composition ever. period. really. --- the humble abbott arthur purvis set his hand hereto

Heinz Holliger - Scardanelli Zyklus (ECM) Very sustained and atmospheric (mostly) microtonal choral and ensemble pieces which basically depict poet Friedrich Hölderin's descent into madness. The sense of atmosphere is greatly enhanced by ECM's trademark excessive use of reverb. Some of György Ligeti's pieces such as Aventures/Nouvelles Aventures, Lux Aeterna or Atmospheres are very "ambient" in my opinion. I think I once read that Aphex was influenced by Ligeti while he was writing SAW II. Jim O'Rourke's early work like "Tamper", "Disengage" and "Remove The Need". I always thought Naked City's Absinthe was a great dark ambient album. Drusca
