Greetings, <<The Kubin is fun. You can hear an RA file from it at: http://www.a-musik.com/mon/index.html under the "Label" page. Also there are clips from the upcoming Terre Thaemlitz 7" and Dat Politics lp/cd. Both sound really impressive - especially the dat politics release. do dat politics have anything else out? The Goem is a bit more abstract than their Rastermusic and Mego releases. Dont have the signal or produkt>> [Tard:] In addition, you can also sample a Goem track ("Eenentwintig" 4'18") available for download as an mp3 at EAR Labs: (http://www.earlabs.org/indexinside.htm). The M. Behrens Kosovo Requiem also there is a helluva lot better than Pavarroti & amigos, but if you've heard Behrens' stuff before, don't expect to be able to tell the difference. Not exactly a bad thing. <<him, and so on, it's pretty neato.) check out the records he did John Zorn and Bill Frisell ('News for Lulu' and 'More News for Lulu') which are absolutely mind blowing... that guy can get so much air through his horn it's rediculous, and he plays faster than JJ.>> [Tard:] It does not have electronics, but I prefer George Lewis' duet improv with Bertram Turetzky (contrabass) off Incus. IMHO, it has incredible range and enough playfulness to attract improv skeptics. But if it's electronics and jazz you're looking for, then I heartily recommend the new Polwechsel 2 record off HatArt. John Butcher replaces Radu Malfatti, and Werner Dafeldecker plays some nicely fitting electronics. Almost sounds like a jazzier Radian. Lastly, I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me on the releases off Tom Records. I stumbled upon the Tom website, which is beautiful btw, following a link from the Karaoke Kalk site. What out of Tom's discog should I buy/avoid? E-mail off-list if you prefer. Thanks, and best wishes, sgnd Tarden. onnow: Jacobs Optical Stairway: Solar Feelings CDep (R&S)

The Tom label releases are all excellent! The first four releaes feature a deep spacious mix of ambience and experimentalism ala oval, cathars, disc, and maybe even a little like some senking stuff. But the new release by Sack & Blumm deviates from that style incorporating some live heavily treated horns mixed with experimental electronics. I suggest getting the Visor comp cd first to get a taste of what this great label has to offer. And dont forget that the Tom website has RA samples of all their releases. Check www.tomlab.de to hear for yourself. Tom label discography... . Visor comp cd (Tom 1) . Tom Steinle: Summer DSP 10" (Tom 2) . Novisad: s/t cd (Tom 3) . Xmas special limited cdep (Tom 4) . Sack & Blumm: s/t cd (Tom 5) Due out soon -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Tom is a great label with some outstanding releases. I would buy, in order: 1: Kristian Peters - Novisad (tom3) This is a gorgeous album. It conjures up visions of 3rd generation tape loops with some minimal reverb and effects. Soft, fuzzy-edged loops are the name of the game here. Sometimes they work to beautiful, calming effect, sometimes towards spooky, ominous feeling, but they always evoke a mood and an atmosphere. Top-notch stuff. 2: Various - Visor compilation (tom1) See www.urbansounds.com for a review[1]. I agree pretty much with Sean Cooper's analysis. 3: Tom Steinle - summer dsp (tom2) See www.urbansounds.com again for a review[2]. 4: Sack & Blumm (tom5) Not out yet, but the sound samples on www.tomlab.de are awesome (I'm a sucker for horns, too).
