hello, i just joined this list and i had a quick couple of questions. first, can someone explain what 'drill n bass' sounds like? i assume from the title it has something to do with drum and bass. this is a genre which i seem to run across a lot lately in record reviews or articles but im unable to pin point what it sounds like.. i have the hood remixes record on drop beat (favorite tracks are the horse opera rmx and spymania btw... rad record...) anyway i was on the drop beat web site and it describes the spymania mix as drill and bass. to me the spymania mix sounds nothing like what i would assume drill and bass sounds like... second, my autechre lp5 cd is completely blank on both sides. i mean both sides look the same.. no cover art to distinguish top from bottom... but i was at a friends house recently and his disc has the warp logo and the nothing logo on it... its there a difference between the two? later. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- honor thy mistake as hidden intention --brian eno --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. It's like Drum and Bass taken to the insane extreme. Like imagine the RDJ album if it was jungle. It can be done well, but for a lot of people, it gets annoying after a few minutes. What i consider to be the best examples of drill'n'bass: Squarepusher "Big Loada" US compilation (nothing/Warp) Plug "Drum'n'Bass for Papa" US compilation (can't remember label) What drill'n'bass i enjoy: Funki Porcini "Let's See What Carmen Can Do" EP (ninja tune) Amon Tobin "Pirhana Breaks" and "chomp samba" EPs (ninja) The jazzier side of drill'n'bass Animals on Wheels "Cooked" EP (ninja tune) (What can i say? I'm a sucker for ninjatune EPs. I need more albums.) Bought Funki Porcini's "Ultimately Empty Million Pounds" today, and the clerk gave me a free promo ("Bluffers Guide 3: The 'Tings of Spring'" with a bunch of New ninja offerings, most of which i already had, but having J Swinscoe on CD is nice, and i'm going to have to check this Roots Manuva guy's CD out. He sounds awesome. Great beats and deep bassy voice. And the CD fits in nicely with Funkungfusion, basically making it a 3 cd set. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY

BWANG! You've got an import lp5! No difference really. Trax are all the same, lp5 was released as an import a (couple?) months before the domestix which Nothing Records cosigned Warp. (this explains the nothing imprint on your friend's disc). Anyway, all the imports I've seen are naked on both sides, but the domestix have the warp/nothing logos on the non-playing side (for convenience?). out-out, _10m

usually pretty bad. however, i think hangable auto bulb 1/2 was pretty important as far as the early sounds go. its great because it was quite unique sounding at the time and horrible becuase it inspired so much crap.

pretty good word to use when you are describing this record: hysterical. what you get out of "big loada": headache. but i remember that i liked the first track. always something. / thomas l
