in place of elevator muzak, these days a lot of restaurants are playing what they called 'satellite music', anyone got more info on this? depends on which channel they're tuning in, they've got really good acid jazz.

I remember hearing the Orb's Toxygene on one of these stations in a mall. And Finley Quaye's Sunday Shining immediately after, two of my favorite songs at the time. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY

Well, I can only speak for South Africa, but I should think it's pretty similar elsewhere. If you have satellite TV, apart from the TV channels, you can toggle to "audio" and there's a selection of MANY music channels (no back-announcing though) - you pick the category and they deliver. I'm just looking through the programme here - lists about 30, classified in different categories with sub- categories (eg under INSTRUMENTAL you get Beautiful Instrumentals / Contemporary Instrumentals / New Age). Quite a selection of Jazz, Oldies, Pop/Adult Contemporary - which includes Dance / Euro Hits / Hottest Hits / Power Hits / Soft Hits then under Rock you get Album Rock / Alternative / Classic Rock / Hard Rock, etc. The blurb for Dance says "a blend of kickin' house, techno and rave" :-) If I wasn't such a trainspotter I'd tune in, but it irritates me like hell to hear something good and not know what it is. I saw this here in the US a friend's house. If you tune in the TV station, the name of the song is shown on the screen. But i didn't particularly like the selection, all seemed to be from a DJ somebody who played just big beat stuff i couldn't get into. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY

You can hit the display/info button on the DSS remote and the normal channel display screen will pop up. Give it a few seconds and it will retrieve the track name, artist name, cd name, label name, and some number that I always assumed is the catalog number. Some of the channels also have a neato screensaver type background :) I'd guess it's the same for other dish networks and digital cable. Oh, and check out MuchMusic on channel 269. Their electronic show (RU Receiving) is good, but only on the first friday of every month. Still, they roll a lot more good music into their general shows. I've caught stuff on Money Mark, Norman Cook, and the legion of green men on shows like the Wedge. Xaos 80 97 116 114 105 99 107 32 77 99 71 105 110 110
