Yeah well speaking from the point of a label owner... i'd like to have all my back-catalogue in print, but as a small label with limited resources (read: money!) it's impossible. Besides that and i think this is probably a view shared by Andy Maddox and others (though i could be mistaken here). Why spend more money on something that's old and already been heard by the majority of your listener base when you can invest in new artists or new music from the same artist?! Aaron said:

There's a certain irony in this posting slagging some ones honest and possible accurate review (i don't know i wasn't there!?) review of a live gig they were actually at!! You were not... you were stuck somewhere in New Mexico possibly near the radioactive hot spot Los Alamos (explains your abnormal anger). Of course you are entitled to your opinion, just as the guy who wrote the original review is and above all please remember that all this list is, is other peoples' opinions... don't take them so personally and try to have an informed opinion yourself. You'll get far more out of the list that way. ObIDM: Finally obtained Header#2 and i love the InnerZone Orchestra (Carl Craig) track, when's the new album scheduled for release? Regards, John

To further this point, i know one particular label who went under in part due to refusing to let their backcatalogue go out of print. Despite how big the cult of personality is around a certain label (or artist), backcatalogue, by in large, just collects dust (there are certainly exceptions). A label like Skam can and does benefit from their out-of-print titles, however. The possibility of inaccesibility heightens people's collector-esque sensibilities, which increases sales. In addition, high profile, out-of-print backstock makes people more interested in future releases. All of this, of course, is not to say that you can't make a very good case for keeping your backstock in print, if you have the money. --Sharon Gun Music (8/10/00)
