He's got an lp called "Child's View" and a remix lp of the same...I think there is a new called something like "Child's Magic", which is fairly pricey. I have the two former, which are tasty d-n-b with a jazzy sauce laden over top. The remix cd has an all star cast on which I would report if the cd was in arms lenght...which it isn't. I'd recommend his stuff, though. jeff -- dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." ICQ 904008

check out child's view (an alias of Nobukazu Takemura) - funfair The above is on bubblecore. only one track really has beats (well, the dylan group remix does as well). Most of the tracks are similar to what oval has been doing lately. Good stuff. Highly recommended. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records On Wed, 28 Apr 1999, Miau-Miau International wrote:

He also has an album coming soon on Thrill Jockey, recorded as DJ Takemura... Don't know many details beyond that fact, though. .John.

There's a review of 'Funfair' at: http://motion.state51.co.uk/reviews/359.html with a couple of samples plus a link to an old bellissima site, that's his old (defunct) label in Japan. The bellissima stuff is very jazz/dance and maybe not what your looking for but do look out for his new one on thrill jockey.... TAKEMURA, NOBUKAZU: Scope CD (THRILL JOCKEY). "Creatively, Nobukzu Takemura is inspired by both the 'impressionist and objective conception' of John Cage, Brian Eno and Afrika Bambaata, and the free form creativity of John Coltrane and Robert Wyatt. These influences are evident in his debut solo release, 1994's eponymous Child's View. 1997 saw the release of two records

Hands, a collaboration with Steve Jansen and Richard Barbierie. Scope is Nobukazu's debut Thrill Jockey full length. The five tracks all vary widely in style. Some focus on repetitive grooves that gradually transform into symphonies of delicately layered waves of sound while others offer organ-based melodies and alluringly stretched vocals. Also evident are intricate conversations between blips and bleeps that have more personality than half the humans you know. Put away your BPM counters, this is modern technology morphing. I was just listening to 'Meteor' and got the distinct impression that it was majorly influenced by Mouse on Mars.. but, uh, I also think that could be an absolute coincidence based on his working methods.. Thrilling first post after 5 months of this list, eh? :-) Michael PS. If anyone has any Jet Jaguar or Patio enquiries unanswered in my absence, drop me a line. I busted out my Meteor ep today to review your comments and i agree that one of the two tracks on Meteor are very Mouse on Mars-like but the other is way too experimental for a valid MoM comparison. The other track on Meteor would be better compared to Ryoji Ikeda/ Dumb Type, or even Oval. On the Takemura album, Scope, Nobukazu veers more towards, often going way beyond, the experimental sound of the second side of meteor. A very unique and enjoyable listening experience. If you enjoy the MoM-ish sound Takemura toys with on ½ of Meteor then i suggest you try his Funfair album on the Bubblecore label (under his Child's View guise). On Funfair Takemura dwells more in the vibrant quirky electronica sound which, at times, is reminiscent of Mouse on Mars but with a delightfully light-hearted feel. I recommend you check Funfair out if you can still find it.

Speaking of Patio, a friend recently sent me a tape of the Patio Cross Dressing demo and it is wonderful. Spacious downtempo melodic electronica with a touch of experimentalism. I'm really looking forward to the official release of some Patio material as well as some Jet Jaguar stuff (which i believe is a collaborative effort between Patio & Aspen). -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Uhh, I meant "after 5 months _off_ this list". :-) And what I was meaning about Meteor is simply that it's funny how people can produce some similar results completely coincidentally, or without being influenced by each other. It's something I try and keep in mind when wanting to rush in and condemn something for being horribly derivative... I'm sure anyone who writes music and plays it to strangers has had the experience of hearing what other people think their influences are. It's often very amusing. :-) Michael Join 18 million Eudora users by signing up for a free Eudora Web-Mail account at http://www.eudoramail.com
