Hi all... I've been meaning to buy one of their CDs for 7 or 8 years and since hearing their track on the Pi soundtrack I'm more interested. What would be a good place to start? Which track is on Pi? If it's a track from Mezzanine and you really like it go for that. Blue Lines is classic, but it hasn't aged perfectly, some of it sounds really cheesy (although all that is fixed when they do the songs live, i almost wish they'd rerecord the whole album like they rerecorded "Eurochild" as "Euro Zero Zero"). Protection is good but a bit too slick and it feels to forulaic the way both sides are laid out the same way: Tracey Thorn, Tricky and 3d, Nicolette, Instrumental (craig armstrong on piano), Horace Andy. Mezzanine is very good, a pop-style perfection of some ideas tricky brought forth on "Pre-Millennium Tension": dark, heavy, guitars, evil. Probably their most fully-realized album, yet atypical from the first two. And Horace andy is at his best here. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/ Newly reworked Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings site http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY

don't forget massive attack vs. the mad professor - no protection serious dark dub. Like getting lost in an echo chamber. Saying that I really like mezzanine. The vocals contributed by Liz Fraser on teardrop are incredible. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records

Strange you say that today. First let me say : yes, I agree and the song is goosebumpy gorgeous. Last night we were blowing some hot air around the lounge - make that a 4-speaker 1000 Watt system kicking out Cari Lekebusch with full intent and some moving moments with Two Lone Swordsmen. Then Tully suggested hearing some vocals and out came "Teardrop" - and *gasp*, what a surprise the soupy sound was. It's a really down, dark, narrow and almost lo-fi mix - the whole of Mezzanine (import copy). Obviously they wanted it that way - but compared to everything else we were playing last night - and we were playing loud and long - the mix lacked openness and width. Still an excellent album though. And another essential M/A would be Blue Lines, imo. I *

Massive Attack vs. Mad Professor - No Protection. It's not solely massive attack, but it's better. More out. but mezzanine and blue lines are good too - blue lines is split almost exactly 50/50 incredible/pigshit, Mezzanine has more mediocrity, less incredibleness. --- the humble abbott arthur purvis set his hand hereto
