hi all, i was wondering what people reccomend as far as web space for putting up mp3's. my isp only allows 10 or so MB and i wanted to put up some of my own tracks. i know that there are heaps of free space providers so ideally i would like the space to be free with the least amount of banners and crap and the most amount of free space. any tips from the list would be totally cool!! later, derek... peace, love and ambience. d... d@techno.ca www.clo.com/~orbital

http://www.mp3.com, Still the best. And best of all it's free. They'll generate a site for you & give you access to all of this crazy chart information & top 100 lists & such. All you need to do is fill out a questionaire. There's all of this mess about DAM CD's & such but you can forego all of that & just use them to host your tracks. It's a bit corporate-whorish, but it's a great place to put like 100 megs of mp3's & such (you can even link direct to the mp3's themselves from your own site...). I always put my unreleased or embarrassing tracks up there (check out http://www.mp3.com/hrvatski and http://www.mp3.com/gaijin) for a bit of scrutiny. -Våt ____________________ Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge PO BOX 382864. Saw a few postings on Slashdot a while back about mp3.com trying to get certain artists to sign contracts, something to the effect of mp3.com owning the songs or something like that. However, I will have to start plumbing the site for your stuffs. ;)

In Michael Robertson's defense, here's an excerpt from an interview I did that should clear things up: Bleepbloop: So this is completely free for artists? Michael: Absolutely. We don't charge artists any startup fees or monthly fees, if they do sell CDs through our system the contract says they get half the money right off the top. We tried to come up with as clean an implementation as we possibly can. Everything that we do is focusing on the artists. For example, the contract that we have artists sign gives artists all of the power because we give artists something that they don't typically have, that is 'at will' termination. So at any time they can get out of our contract, and when they get out of our contract, they leave with everything that they came with. And ultimately that's the most viable thing you can have in a contract, because if you're not getting value, you can just leave. Aaron
