I am djing at our local club here in Rijeka, Croatia this Friday and my brother (qwerty) is playing live... My brother will go there with laptop PC Pentium 150Mhz. I don't want to carry CDs and records down there, so I was wondering is there any good software which can mix mp3 files ? So the question is can you DJ with mp3 files with sb16 soundcard ? Probably not...but... thanks bye rob

I don't see anything in the Winamp interface that allows you to overlap tracks. I tried running two sessions of the program (many Windows programs will let you do that if you rerun the exe while it's already open) - Winamp doesn't do that. Then I tried copying all the Winamp program files so I had two installations, which you does allow you to open a second session of the program - however, when I try to select and play an Mp3, I get the message "Could not initialize Audio;audio device already in use" which I suspect means my Windows audio device rather than the program itself. what a load of rubbish, take a look at http://carrot.prohosting.com and their virtual turntables program - it actually WORKS - with full pitch control, auto bpm matching, instant cueing, really nice pitch nudge, etc etc... i'm playing out this thursday with it. temple of convenience, if anyone's around mcr.. will be playing some really REALLY juicy trainspotter gems, as well as premiering forthcoming salford sounds material. did i say really REALLY juicy? i meant really really REALLY R-E-A-L-L-Y juicy. nudge nudge wink wink and all that. <waves>

Try Virtual TurnTables (VTT). Do a websearch, it's a 2mb download and works very well on a P200. Only problem is, it's a 10-minute demo. But then, if you can afford, records, CDs and decks (and a laptop!!) you should pay for the software (if it's any use to you). It lets you DJ with MP3s, the only problem is no 'hands on', but then there's Final Scratch which lets you use real decks with a special record (which plays tones indicating where on the record the stylus is). And it only runs on BEOS (www.be.com). Only one problem: it costs 300 dollars (additional records 15 dollars), and BEOS costs about 40. And BeOS might not run on a laptop. Final Scratch might support SB16... but hilariously, BeOS doesn't (basically they said, "We've written drivers for the high-end cards (Turtle Beach, Event, etc), but think that cards as low as the SB16 are not the professional cards that professional BeOS users will be using" - oops). So I'd say, all things considered, go for Virtual Turntables (it plays MP3s or WAVs, as does Final Scratch). Jeremy.

I dont know whether it helps but with winamp 2.08 and probably earlier versions you should take a look in the "Preferences" menu (press Ctrl+P) then look in the "Options" page, and you will see a check box saying "allow multiple instances" which does just that. Wheter it lets you overlap/mix two or more MP3's I dont know. -- ________________________________________________________________________ |Tim Moss SCO Client Integration Development Phone:+44 (0)1223 518034| |Software Vision Park Cambridge CB4 9ZR Fax : +44 (0)1223 518001| |Engineer WWW: http://www.premier.sco.com Mailto:timm@sco.com | |______________________________________________________________________|
