Oh Plaid....Thou art _so_ sad. Book of Dogma (33:3) I am not even going to lower myself by replying to this vitriolic load of old twaddle. If you want to repeat this shite in court......."Make our Day". I will remind you that the material belongs to BDP Ltd, GPR, and RISING HIGH. And we have ALL the original contracts to prove this. Now please kindly f*ck off back to the sad & pathetic holes that you've both dug for yourselves. Whatever friendship we once shared in the past, has evaporated in the face of this blatantly greedy, corporate bullshit. Enjoy your life on w*rp, boys. Ken, why did you lower yourself in the first place with all this mud slinging? You always seem so concerned about what Plaid does. Why? Can't you put the past behind you?

Someone must be looking for a handout. What's the matter didn't you make enough money remixing Marilyn Manson? I remember you made derogatory comments about Plaid beinging Bjork's band a while back. At least Bjork is good, Marilyn Manson is pretty shite.

Do you accept money to do remixes of shite corporate rock? You sound like a hypocrite. I don't think IDM is the right forum for your personal attacks and smear campaigns.

Hmm.. by-passing this ever-so-thrilling airing of laundry, I am curious to see what happens court-wise. Aren't Plaid assuming that because they wrote all the material they have copyright over all of the recordings of it? Are there instances in which rights to a recording can be reclaimed by the authors of the composition, if those rights are currently owned by others? I can see a rather up-hill battle here on Plaid's part. Unless of course GPR and Rising High both say "go for it".. that'd be a very interesting situation. Michael np. i'm sure everyone would like to see those tracks released, but that doesn't mean plaid has the legal rights to do so. warp/plaid might say/think they do but we can't know for sure. isn't that what this whole thing is about, ken saying they don't have the rights? does he know they don't have the rights, or is the squabble over the fact that he worked on those tracks too and he feels they are trying to run with those tracks, whereas plaid says that is lie? i love plaid and black dog, but be careful with totally siding with plaid when we can't know the real stories behind this, regardless of how you view each's posting to the idm list. how would you feel if a couple of your bandmates ran off with old tracks you had a hand in and they tried to get them released on a major label without your approval, i know i would likely see it as a violation and try and stop it any way i could just because of the ethics. not saying that's what happened, but we really don't know plaid or bd, so how can we side with either (of course we would all love to see these tracks but if ken worked on those tracks then it wouldn't be right unless he consented, even though they apparently hate each other now). just my two bits. of course invalid if ken isn't claiming to have worked on the tracks and he's judging this as simply a sellout out of jealousy etc. how sad to see two of your favorite talents go through something like this though. ::sigh:: -sean - sean whalen swhalen@nfinity.com icq 19945978 public key @ www.nfinity.com/~swhalen fingerprint 4636 AADC 3AC6 7143 9F42 04DD 51D2 4AF2 946C BD93 ----- Original Message ----- From: <AeOtaku@aol.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 12:48 PM Subject: [idm] Re: MORE MONKEY BUSINESS

you just asked if the list was 100% pro-plaid, but if you want me to elaborate, read on. i don't think there's enough information to take sides. we don't know what the contract says and both parties are claiming rights to the work. also, i think both sides are doing a lot of mudslinging that clouds the real issues. i would appreciate old black dog, et al work being widely available, but i would also appreciate having the original track listings and artwork from the previously released material. that's my two cents. Colin

Hi folkz, As a mate of Ken's I wanted to post a quick message on IDM regarding this whole compilation issue, because I keep reading a lot of stuff from people and I think they should know a bit more about it before attacking Ken or Ed or Andy. I got an e-mail from Ken when he first heard of the compilation via the Warp site, he was really upset to hear the original material was being taken apart and released in a totally different format, track listing and so on. Ed & Andy hadn't made any attempt to contact him about it and discuss it, he only found out about it by accident... I know that Ken would have been happy for the entire back catalogue to be released on CD, providing it's with the same track listing and the same artwork etc. But, instead, the "Plaid" tracks are being surgically removed so that they can add them to their compilation (which, of course, means more money for them). GPR are still around, and they must own the (c) to the Black Dog material released on GPR, so I guess Warp have already licensed it from them? Rising High are no more, as far as I know? Personally I want to own the old material, but I must admit I'd rather buy a CD with all the EP's on, in the same format, with the three original band members working their magic together. I like Plaid, and I like The Black Dog (Ken) but together they were unique, and taking tracks out of context seems like a sad thing to do, it also "feels" a little bitter, under the circumstances. I wouldn't want to own Bytes or Spanners without Ken or Ed'n'Andy, can you imagine?! In a perfect world, I think that GPR should release the original 10 EP's on one double CD or something, and a vinyl triple pack, or whatever. Ken would have been totally OK with that. Even if it does mean less money for Ed'n'Andy's pockets, isn't that a more honourable thing to do? If something's perfect, why mess with it? Ed and Andy can easily write a new album, as can Ken. And I hope they all do! Somebody also mentioned Ken dissing Bjork, and I know for a *fact* that he considers her an amazingly talented artist (he did the early Black Dog remixes for her). He just prefers "Bjork" as "Bjork" and without too much dilution (I agree, I still listen to Debut more than her recent stuff, and the Sugarcubes stuff is utterly brilliant, natch). Ken's always rated Bjork as a great artist and songwriter, but feels she knows her talent better than anyone else. So do I (and I can't wait to see her in Lars Von Trier's new movie) and I wish Ken would work with her again in the future. Oh, and it might really surprise people to read that Ken has often mentioned to me how much respect he has for Ed's talent, and that he considers both Ed and Andy great artists. Just, at the moment, better artists than people. Let's get back to the music!! Laters, Dan (a fan of The Black Dog, and Marilyn Manson - yes, it is possible!). ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Some on the List, dont feel that its appropriate to discuss things of this nature.....But I will try and make my point quickly! There is really NO SIDE! Its their business! Simple as that. If we were all so busy, then we would just stay out of it and continue being immersed in our own affairs.....and let them sort things out(which I hope they do in a way that is not only conducive to the both of them, but to the IDM/Techno fans respectfully)! I dont side with either, and how could I, I dont even know the intricacies of the entire matter! There are three sides to every story, A's side, B's side, and then the TRUTH! Discuss that! I agree with what some others have said about this - that we shouldn't take sides. If Plaid doesn't have permission from the old labels I don't see how they could do this... It really is up to Ken, plaid, and the labels. I really hope they can work this out somehow, and I hope they do this in private and don't make any more such posts on the list... it was really strange reading those, almost like listening to your parents fight.
