A bit obsessive, I know: can a kind, wonderful, and knowledgable soul figure out and post which Ae tracks have been mostly or ALL Nord Lead? Just looking for more trivia to cram into my head. Some day I'll figure out a way to return the favor to everybody who puts up with these questions :) Love y'all, -chris "I tried using Cubase but it didn't work for me. I met this guy once who showed me how to use it. He was making a sad song, so he'd created the pattern of a frown on the screen. That scares me!" -DJ Shadow

I read in an interview that some of the tracks on Cichlisuite are almost exclusively Nord. The second track (one of their best) sounds almost all Nordish to me. -Michael

I can't comment on whether autechre have in the past used a nord lead, but after talking to Sean the other day I'm aware that the sounds that they have been using recently have all been homegrown using synthesis language packages - real hardcore geeky stuff like supercollider, used to synthesise sounds, and max, which is more involved in the midi side of things. So, think pascal, smalltalk and numerous algorithmically driven sound components, rather than knob twiddling. I also heard rumours that mr r.james may be playing with a piece of homegrown music creation software which could potentially be released to the general public... Matt

Yeah, what I've been using for my Autechre-ish style tracks is Koan Pro hooked up to my JV-1080 and Prophecy. I set up loads of mad LFOs on the prophecy and twiddle them in real time as various chaotic riffs are pumped out of Koan. It's not really a case of what you use to create your sounds, but what you do to manipulate them. /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

You make it sound so sinister. :-) Creating strange sounds with a computer is one of the easiest things on the planet. It's also one of the best ways to loose hours and hours of your life! It's all coming together inside there: one box. Exciting, no? yes! brock.
