got this piece of information from a swedish radio show: Bola "Aguilla" - / SKAM 002 i've got the track on tape, but what confuses me is that SKAM 002 is by gescom. it's fucking incredible but sounds nothing like the stuff gescom would cook up. this whole situation would make sense if it turns out that it was SKAM 005 that was played instead of 002. who is/are bola? where has bola appeared elsewhere? when/where is the album 'soup' coming out? -bauri . It was actually KMAS 002, a 7" release from earlier this year. SKAM's 7" releases are given KMAS numbers. KMAS 001 was Boards of Canada. SKAM 005, however, *was* a 12" EP by Bola.

A bloke named Darrell Finton, I believe. Although I've probably spelt his name wrong. And I may be confusing Bola with someone else and have it completely wrong. :)

The Skampler and 0161 compilation CDs. I don't think he has tracks anywhere else.

In a couple of weeks on SKAM. Greg

He co-wrote Gescom's SKA 02 EP (along with Rob Hall, aka Ad Vanz) and has a track on Warp's AI2 compilation. /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

well almost. BoC was given a KMAS number (kmas 001), but Bola was given a KMS number instead (kms 002). don't ask me why the left out the "A". probably to create confusion, like normal.

I thought this heavily satirical catalogue description of Bola's album from Forced Exposure's latest update was worth forwarding to the list (& it was written by one of our list-members, making it more relevant): BOLA: Soup CD (SKA CD2). "Bola is one Darryl Fitton, card carrying member of the 'Artificial Intelligence' clan (though his contribution to Vol.2 of said IDM blueprint) with guys like Aphex Twin, Autechre, and the like, and official 'clamor-about' to many a track-length-obsessed/discographical-info-sorting 'fan'. This is mostly due to the relatively low catalogue number displayed on the label to his first release under the Bola moniker on the noted Skam record 'releasing' organisation of Manchester and subsequent 7" released in a numbered edition far less than any first year business student would deem 'a worthwhile/profitable/sensible action'. Surprisingly, Darryl's debut full-length offers much in the way of 'musical meat'; in fact it's easy to see how the life-affirming nature of included sonics could induce tearing and related body-shivers to a lot of bedroom dwelling muck-abouts with little interest in trees, wildlife, rain forests, etc... most tracks have that unmistakable ambiance that brinks on 'Muzak' (or it's E/Z brethren) while retaining an alien sensibility of rhythm/form/development (i.e. chill-out music for the non-emotionally-handicapped). If you count 1993 as IDM's 'year zero', 1998 marks it's entrance into pre-school for 'cultural refinement'. Buy it by the truckload. Send your kids to college someday." -- Hrvatski. $18.00

In one fell swoop, Skam revives intelli-ambient-techno-whatever with a subtle and powerful LP! Nicely layered little arpegiations, key changes and dreamy chord progs and atmosphere. Warm...friendly... melodic, not "cold"-ambient (like Robert Leiner (sp?) or noodly FAx modular jams(which has its place, tho' for me, not so affectionately)

Hrvatski collab'd a great track on the Lucky Kitchen VideoGame CD "Blip, Bleep"! That cd is a gem esp as just sit down and listen (I played it through the Playstation (hereto referred as " 'Station") and just enjoy the twists and turns...complete entertainment! (imagination not included) favorite game idea is the "Family Tree Polo"... any Vectrex fans out there? I am again flogging myself for not getting my tracks done in time (Varese meets analog Circus music, ala ultra-insipid infant video game --you know the kind of game where everything is really BIG and SIMPLE, with blocky balloons and bears on unicycles, only minimal gore...mostly lacerations and broken bones) I'll probably use it elsewhere <sigh>, but it just won't be the same! ;( late to the potluck at the lucky kitchen... flog<->golf (!!) 8-/ ,solenoid

I decided to listen to the Bola 12" on Skam. I found something cool about the track "Krak Jakomo." Like any other vinyl record, you have your run out groove. Well this run out groove was playable and it contained the background sound from "Krak Jakomo" and goes into a playable locked groove. May have been discovered before but its new to me. === J._/Mc @ Designst?rung Designstorung: http://members.xoom.com/jm45675/HTMLremix.html Underscore: http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1 _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? No, I'm afraid not. Bola is usually working as a producer and not a musician. Given that he's only released two singles and an album over the last five years (with a sprinkling of singles and collaborations with Autechre) and that Soup came out six months ago, I doubt we'll be hearing much from him soon. Of course, if he proves me wrong... Aaron
