This is a story of unlikely synchronicity.
At a recent sale I bought 8 CD's unheard because they were going
cheap, looked interesting, and I'm an addicted horder.
Amongst them was one release which is now a firm favourite:
Inference Engine's "Gravity Well" (Shroom Recordings 1995) -
hypnotic organic rhythmic textured dub ambience of tranquil beauty
(too many adjectives!!)
Printed on the inside it says it is the third in a series of limited
editions (500) from Shroom Recordings. Imagine therefore my
surprise upon visiting my former school friend Jan and finding this
CD in his collection too! What are the chances of two people in
Cape Town South Africa having this pretty obscure album and
being in one room? And he bought his in the UK - I almost
suspected the local CD shop to have taken on a consignment and
flogging them all on sale ...
Of all the burble on the cover, the only person namechecked who
rings a bell is "Robin Scanner". The actual music seems to stem
from a loose collective. Do any of you know / have this or any of
the other releases in the series? Since this is the third and was
released in 95, chances are there are some follow-ups.
It's worth scratching around for one of the remaining 498 copies >!<<
