It was nice, but pretty low key and very poorly attended. I got there around 11:30 and Jeswa, I think, was spinning. He was wearing a Kraftwerk Robots T and spinnning some electro that I didn't recognize. I got a beer and then Richard Devine came on. He played a live set crouched down behind some gear with a laptop perched on top. It was very nice stuff; I'm looking forward to the Trapezoid 12-inch. As I was listening to him, I was standing behind two tallish guys who were dancing. That was fun ("Dancing to IDM is phat."), but for some reason I wanted a better look at man twiddling the knobs. So I moved over behind two short guys in baggy pants who were right up front but not dancing. (There were maybe 25 people scattered in front of the "stage.") Then the music stopped and everyone applauded, to which Mr. Devine stood up and explained, "The Power went out!" A record was thrown on and the problem was looked into. At this point, the two guys in front of me started talking to each other. I noticed they had British accents, then I noticed the recently familiar mini-fro on one of them, then they turned around to talk to the guy next to me and HOLY SHIT! it's Sean Booth and Rob Brown! I thought about saying something to them--that their music is one of my favorite things in life, that they played a great set the night before, why do I like new Gescom stuff more than I like new Autechre stuff--but couldn't think of anything worthwhile. The power to Richard Devine's equipment was restored and he played until about 1:00. I left around 1:30. Why did no one else go to this show? There were maybe 9 or 10 people who looked to be random IDM listers like me, and there was a group of about 25 people that Misters Booth and Brown were hanging out with, and then there were some club kids. Who else was there? Can anyone confirm that it was Jeswa (which is Josh Kay, right?) spinning before Richard Devine? And because I could still be convinced otherwise, can anyone put Sean and Rob anywhere else on the planet that night thereby making me the admirer of simply two random UK emigres?

I wasn't there but when I interviewed Sean & Rob the next day they said that they were at the show... so you prob. should have said "Hi." They're really nice guys. Howie

Low key, yes. Poorly attended? Eh. I thoguht there were a fair number of people there considering it was a Sunday night and it was, well, Schematic. No disrespect intended but how many people in the New York area own or have even heard any of those records? Besides, based on the 2 Schematic parties in NYC that I've been to, it seems like they're content to keep things on the dl.

That wasn't Josh. We're still not sure who that was. Some friend of theirs from Miami, I think. He played a mixed bag, (labcoat electro, crunchy metallic shit, fungle) although mixed might not be the right word, because while I'm not saying train wreck, there wasn't really any flow. Entertaining enough though. Richard Devine? Pretty damn good, despite the power problems. After Devine came DJ Aura? Ora?, I think? Hey, by that point it was kinda loud and we were enjoying ourselves a little too much so it's kinda hard to say. Whoever he was he rocked it. Electro. Dynamix II and Phoenicia sound really good really loud. Nice groove. Had to leave before Jeswa, and another live PA by some girl who was supposed to jam on a QY-70.

Um, I'm sorry, I got an extension so I didn't have to hand in my report right away. But I did some extra credit (see below). Seriously though, what does a random IDM lister look like? I doubt when people see me they think, 'Hey she looks like she wades through hundreds of emails about whose city is shittier and which magazine has the best gurner of the month (Muzik!) just to read Lance's record reviews.' Pass the porn please. Right, so what follows is my attempt at a contribution to the list. A few reviews... Various Artists - The West Coast Sound of Electro (Bunker 3000). More filthy low-fi electro from Den Haag. If Logan's Run were a porn flick, this would be the sound track. Electronome, Pamtex, Lego Welt, and more (!), seek this one out. (2x12) Various Artists - Fit for Heroes (Riot City). Superbly produced spacey and bassy, a couple of electro slow jams, a couple of movers, and a bunch of nasty little lock grooves. Think Electrecord (Third Electric, Klystron, KoLute) and Riot City. Stylish gatefold sleeve. (2x12) The Freek - Martian Leaders O.E. (Electrocute). The 2nd release on this label and I can't wait for number 3. I'm feeling Dopplereffekt or maybe more Drexciya here. And some Le Car. Creepy new wave-ish. A touch of Electron Industries on the flip. Nothing revolutionary, but really tight and really good. Mystery Man - Electric Activity (Overdrive). Wow, Mystery Man, been listening to Anthony Rother? Cool. -Christina

um...I don't know how to say this without sounding corny but I think it's cool that there seem to be more posts from female list members...my girlfriend is very much into IDM as well, though not as much as me maybe, and I like to hear opinions from all around... peace Nate
