Uhhhh I don't know what it is you guys are hearing but I don't hear anything "IDM" with either of these two. I've seen these Plug research dudes plenty here in So CAL and the only thing IDM related has got to be that 12" with the Paradinas track on it. Most of the other shit I've heard is *MINIMAL* 4tothefloor stuff or some nonsense noodleroni. Then the Pthaylo stuff is like random crazy wacked out noise (kewl if you're into that stuff) he definitely likes some to do some wacky programming and all, but I just can't get into it and don't understand how others can. here come the flames..... -gilly ........ºprotest protestersº............. To each his own but i definitely consider releases by phthalocyanine, phthalo and plug research to be very much in the idm style. Granted, it's not like the aphex twin, µ-ziq, wagon christ, cylob, or jega style, but the "sound/style" of those artists is not the only "sound/style" that can be considered idm. i would assume that if you don't like the "crazy wacked out noise" of phthalo, then you're probably not familiar with several other likeminded and likesounding labels that are all considered idm labels - v/vm, mego, a-musik, rastermusik, platelunch, cheap, mille plateaux, irdial, moikai and imbalance to name just a few. to further prove my point, i was told that the guys from v/vm as well as mouse on mars both love the phthalocyanine stuff so much so that the would love to and/or are going to release some of his stuff. the phthalo label happily labels their music as "harder to digest tracks." so you know not to expect any pretty easy listening stuff. but the phthalo record label is doing great stuff. there are several relaeses by phthalocyanine himself, but also by crank (low res), rook vallade (OST), Dean & Jerry MVFS (phthalo & low res) and soon some of our FAVORITE idm artists will appear on this label too. you'll see who soon... regarding the plug research label, they are have done a few minimalish techno projects but even those are pretty fresh for that style. PR has also been doing some unbelieveably cool idm stuff. take their comp for example, tracks by low res, lustmord, stasis, mannequin lung, and r.e.a.l.m. to name just a few. and the mannequin lung album is breathtaking! it will be one of my top albums of the year. but most of all you'll love the new plug research album by Low Res called Approximate Love Boat - mistaken alien interpretations of earth music. It's fourteen tracks of "more traditional" idm type stuff incorporating dark spooky atmospheres, warped melodies and twisted percussions sounding something like what a coil & autechre collaboration would be like. The low res cd will be out in a few weeks. I can't recommend it enough. gil, it sounds like you just don't like the more experimental or floor friendly sounds of idm and there's nothing wrong with that. just don't discount styles you don't like. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

spark - spark - spark <FLAMETHROWA Ignite = "on"> gil - i urge you to give the plug and pthallo stuff repeated listenings. there is fine fine fine stuff here representing the I in IDM. it may not jump out at you on first listen, but none of the good stuff ever does. the mannequin lung LP is primo as is most everything john tejada touches. phtallo's warship is challenging but lovable; could an act named after everyone's favorite potent pigment be half bad? just keep the ears and lobes open, that's all. </FLAMETHROWA mode="extinguish"> np: metamatics: dope for the robot peeeeeeeeeece, -- Jeff Davis pHlow@earthlink.net P:518.475.5042 F:518.475.5657 ICQ:17028671 pHlow.linx: home.earthlink.net/~phlow/ Bochum Welt: www.bochumwelt.com Rotator Locator: hyperreal.org/music/rotator/

Dear IDM, I love the new work Mr.D and Joe, Alan, and Mr.Low Rez, and his puppys are doing. I give them big props for not being scared to release what they belive in. I wish more labels where like this then everyone pumping out the same record over and over, or getting artist from big labels to do a 12' instead of new artist. Many props to my friends at Plug Research for being real. Love ya, Shad@ Isophlux Records We should hang like we did back in the day.
