Word from Ninja Jeff is no new full length from the Funki one 'til early '99. DAMN!!!^&(%&!@$! In the meantime, you'll have to be happy w/ the Funkungfusion track, the Cujo collaboration (Joint Ventures),the Jerry Van Rooyen remixes, the Pierre Henry remix, the Endlessism remix, and any other remixes that come down the pipe between now & the album release. Sounds expensive. Che rock - rok (v.) - having a conventional and/or boring nature. ex: "Khakis rock". "That Rolling Stones show rocked". syn: suck.

Yes, it's the title. Funki Porcini remixed in 1997 some tracks from 1960s / 1970s producer Jerry van Rooyen. Great stuff. Take care! Were the tracks really that old? wow! Excellent stuff, probably my favorite porcini related release. Well, I'm not really sure about the year Jerry v. Rooyen wrote the originals. I was just gussing from what I seem to remember having heard somewhere ... I could have got this wrong, too. Sounding great on 33 as well as 45 really is an advantage of this record. But also annoying sometimes if you are like me and want to listen to the music the way the artist intended it to sound, and then you are not sure what's right or wrong ... at the moment I prefer 45. Just 3 tracks on this LP, great loungey Porcinisms, released last year on Sideburn (Germany). I've seen copies of it in my town, so it's not impossible to find.

It was just one track, on the Joint Ventures comp. released by Ninebar in the UK and I think by Instinct Electronica in the US earlier this year. One of those rare collabs that is actually a tasty combination of the two artists' sounds. You really need this album for the 6 Tobin collabs on it. Since you're obviously in catchup mode on FP, I'll quickly mention that there is at least one track, maybe two on Funkungfusion on Ninjatune (great 2xCD for $16), and a track on the Dot remix comp. Endlessism. Word from da Ninjas is no FP album until next year. :( Let's hope for lots of remixes! Che

On my vinyl copy of FunKungFunsion there's only one FP track, already released on 'Let's See What Carmen Can Do'. It's taken from his second full length on Ninja Tune called 'Love, Pussycats & Carwrecks' (ZEN23) Take Care! If Ninja Phil is still around, maybe he can answer this: Don't know if I've missed anything (I think I have) but I haven't heard a squeak from Funki Porcini since Love, Pussycats and Carwrecks. So, two questions for ya: a) what have I missed? b) what's next?! and my tuppnybitsworth on Clifford Gilberto - I think two or three tracks are sqp-derivitive, still pretty funky. I was glad to find the whole album wasn't like this - in fact I think it's the style of some of the other stuff which prompted me into asking about Funky Porcini. For me I prefer the slower tracks on CG's album to similar Tobin type material. laters matt
