Yes yes yes! Delta....there was a really fabulous 12 minute soundscape for the in-game music on that game....really cool. Rob Hubbard was definitely the best on the C64. Some of the music in Parallax was excellent too... -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

Martin Galway :) .. David Whittaker did some really good stuff too , as well as some others . A bunch of guys in Sweden (from memory) are prototyping a sid based midi box , and I'm keeping in close contact with them for obvious reasons ! Most people I know would kill for a sid-based box in their setup :) .. just thought some listies would be interested .. Tim.

you all have discoovered the wonderfrl world of emulators right? just so people know, it is now possible to have nintendo, sega master sysytem, sega genesis, snes, tg16, c64,atari stuff, old arcade games, all the handheld stuf-gameboy,game gear etc, all of this stuff, for free,on your computer(een slow computers for the old stuff) with every single game that existed(almost) and do even more stuff w/them than you could on the old consoles(you can screw around w/the music, save stuff, make "movies" the possibiities are limitless)...look around on the net, there are TONS of emulator sites. some good places to start: http://www.cris.com/~aliv5/emulate.htm http://www.davesclassics.com/ andy ajsolomon@wesleyan.edu

Martin Galway. Thing On A Spring and some 5 A-Side Football game I think were his. Good stuff. BTW, I think you can get a CD of Rob Hubbard stuff done on....Real Synths....right now from somewhere or other. Done know quite what the point is, but there you go. Actually I think the tunes retain some of the original sounds done on the Commodore SID chip. Anyway, it's done by Rob himself and has all the classic like Sanxion and, erm, some others... As you may be able to guess I'm not a expert in this field. A friend knows more than me. Sufficed to say, there's a web-site from which you can get clips of the tracks and order the CD. I forget the URL, but I'll ask next time I see him. No not from TRSI recs, I just ordered the CD with new tracks by Rob Hubbard on http://www.c64audio.com/cd.htm Note that most of the tracks are merely re-makes by the one distributing the CD, but a major part of the tracks are actually remade by the original composers. If you think about it, those old games couldn't have been anything BUT electronic music due to the media they had to work with. Hey! You forgot to mention Megaman :) -=Aaron

If you guys enjoy video-game sounding music i urge you to seek out the Mariopaint: Electric Family album on the Irdial label. Basically what Irdial did is recruit their artists to make some tracks using nothing but Nintendo's Mariopaint game. It's really amazing what those artists did with such a primitive music making instrument. Also try Mimi Magik's Mimi's Utilities 12" also on Irdial for more videsque sounds. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

If you install SIDplay you can play all the Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway etc. tunes you can think of and then loads more. Look for the High Voltage SIDs collection. http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/5147/ adam p.s. the Tortoise album is very good

yeah I think that was the standard Ocean loader or something .. I'll probably get blasted for continuing this thread but .. a fairly oldd EDGE interview with Rob Hubbard stressed the importance of game music , and how the restrictions of the 64 sid chip really produced some of the most interesting tunes done in the history of games .. 3 channels with a few filter effects etc. can go pretty far :) IMO this reasoning is relevant to music made today .. I for one know that I feel much more comfortable at home with my laughable setup , than at my universities mega studio . oh well , couldn't let the monthly c64 thread go by without comment :) Tim.

Uh, that wouldn't by any chance be Jonas Hultén and his AnyWare Softwares M64? quoting from the m64 site: "M64 is a program that will turn your C64 into a synth module. All you need is a MIDI interface that is either Passport, Datel or Sequential-compatible. To enable users to create good sounds, M64 provides an abstract assembly-like language (ASL). ASL programs are supposed to read MIDI controllers and act on key presses." That thingie is freeware so go git it from: http://www.mdstud.chalmers.se/~md6cbm/AnyWare/M64/ Dunno how easy it is to get one of them MIDI-interfaces though... Erik, plodulist!
