Hi all, just a couple of posers for you... a) Anyone know whether DJ Vadims Jazz Fudge labels has put out a compilation? If not, what releases from this label do people reccomend? Also, anyone want to copy me the Vadim LP "USSR Repetoire" or any of the Jazz Fudge stuff in exchange for a tape of anything I've got? b) Is the Cujo LP "Adventures In Foam" available on vinyl with all the CD tracks on it? I've seen a 2x10" on Shadow, but it only has about 7 cuts on there... Cheers if you can help. On a different note, if Gonzi can do it, so can I, so here's my Top Ten as of right now... 1. Robert Wyatt - Shleep (Cassette) Thanks to Rob for sending me this one. Only heard it once, but a fine album and sure to get better and better with repeated listens. Don't know how it compares to his other stuff, 'cos I aint heard any (bar United Kingoms by Ultramarine which he guested on), but its as perversely unique as expected. If anyone has Rock Bottom and fancys a tape trade, please get in touch. 2. Various Artists - Enforcers (Reinforced) Good comp of mainly dark techno-style drum and bass. Great tracks from Sonar Circle, Wings (Roni Size & Crew), DJ Stretch, and Doc Scott, and interesting ones from everyone else, even Leon Mar after that dissapointing Arcon 2 full lengther... 3. Amon Tobin - Bricolage (Ninja Tune) A latecomer to this one, for definite, but glad I got there in the end. This is one of the most unique things I've heard in a long time. Laid back grooves despite some of the jungle speed drum breaks... 4. Digital - Lower Depths (Photek Productions) Skeletal drums combined with low bass, high silky strings and white noise/static effects. Very Photek. It's looking good for the Photek Prods remix LP. 5. Hokusai - Cold/Divine (Source Direct) Another bit of catching up. "Cold" is deep with Acid Trak style noises, but not as harsh. The flip is equally good. 6. Free Acid Classics CD with Muzik Magazine Voodoo Ray, Nude Photo, Sueno Latino, Energy Flash, etc etc all on one FREE CD! Pretty good going, even if the magazine contains pretty much nothing I want to read. 7. Segun - Sweet Surrender This old one comes out to play once again. This man has the serious vocal talent. Great record, I just wish he'd do something else real soon. 8. Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea - In Concert One from out of the local library. Two pianos and an audience. Beautiful. 9. Killah Priest - One Step Wu Tang back on track. One Step is good, and the B-Side tracks are even better. I hope Killah can sustain this kind of flow over his LP. 10. Vapourspace - Sweep Mark Gage keeps it real with this old skool analogue techno excursion. All the trademark deep sounds which no-one else does quite as well, combined with that unique trancey sleepy kind of vibe. That's all. gb. PS Aqua's "Dr Jones", what a dissapointment after the heady pop controversy thrills of "Barbie Girl". Records that sound better in your head than they do in real life are good for nothing but the furnace. And whatever happened to one-hit wonders? Everyone who has one hit these days seems guaranteed another one as part of the bargain. Is it marketing? Chumbawamba getting *one* hit was freakish enough (but they deserve another for throwing a bucket of water over John Prescott), and "Dr Jones" should have remained on the shelves of Woolworths everywhere. -- /TheW i http://www.homeusers.prestel.co.uk/lwtcdi/all/ f o L D o dlr WTC "Let's decompose and enjoy assembling!"

jazz fudge: yes they put out an excellent compilation, organised sound, and dont wait for someone to tape it, go buy it. its probably not that expensive anyways. other goooood jf releases: part one's prelude to cycle 6, anything by Andre Gurov (Vadim himself). if you want someone to tape ussr rep, make sure its the uk edition. the north american version has like half the samples (copyright etc.) note that i didnt include a top ten and think about that little fact. jif

What exactly is the difference between ussr repertoire's domestic release and the (I am assuming) UK release? Different tracks? Different constitutions of tracks? But on the Jazz Fudge tip, definitely score yourself a copy of Organised Sound (if for nothing else than the Ice vs. Palace track ... seriously fucked up) and also the relatively new Sculpture and Broken Sound comp. All of the Andre Gurov releases are solid and spacey, and the Mark B releases are masterful hip-hop (but since its on Jazz Fudge ya'll already knew that). Continuing on the Vadim/Jazz Fudge tip, anybody in the UK got a copy of Lewis Parker's new release on Virgin? Or can anybody tell me how to go about getting it? Thanks in advance. James np: New Flesh 4 Old "Electronic Bombardment" Oh yeah, all Jazz Fudge releases are available in the US through Silent/Pulse Soniq.

I don't see what's wrong with a top ten list - it gives you a vague idea as to the releases that a lot of people seem to be enjoying and gives me purchase ideas. I get hipped to a lot of releases from reviews and top tens on web sites and mailing lists; otherwise I might be missing out. GD
