Anyhow, Not for Threes is defintely one of my favourites of last year. More tuneful than a sack of Val Doonican, groovier than Rolf Harris and Esquivel combined, warmer than honey on toast and a mug of tea. Best moments - (sorry I'm not up on tune names) The one with the ultra fuzzy fluffy drone out of which gradually emerges a tune. This one knots my stomach up, its so pretty. The carnival one with the doo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oh singing at the beginning and the best rolling piano line since the (plaid produced) Kushti single (finest drum&bass ever? perhaps) The ambient one towards the end of side 3 - dreamy dreamy. Not for threes is EZ listening of prime quality. Nothing harsh here, just sublime tunes, funky drums, and bibbly bobbly basslines. In a manner of speaking...

Ladyburst? Too fluffy.

This one is permanently deleted from my CD playlist (which is something I rarely do) because it sucks so hard. > The ambient one towards the end of side 3 - dreamy dreamy. It's ok.

Nothing harsh, but nothing new either. Downright boring more often than not.

Which release would that be? Mbuki mvuki (sp?)?

Pulusha is gorgeous, but unfortunately it's only 2 tracks (not an album), which are fairly similar. Still, it's the best thing from GlobComm since 76:14. A must. Che

Will Global Communication please stand up ? There seems to be a slight lack of *communication* here ... Are these Messrs. Middleton & Pritchard aka Jedi Knights? Henceforth to be known as J-Knights, apparently? What gives? I have bought a CD which pleases me enormously, but for a while there I was totally lost in space as to who or what this was. It now transpires that what I'm looking at is Global Communication's "76:14". Does this title refer to its running time? On my Marantz it shows up as 76:17 [nevermind, this is a small matter...] What I'm curious about is : along the spine of this CD all I can see is "Dedicated" and a catalogue number and - ? - er, some morse code dots and stripes. What is it with Morse? As in Coldcut's Timber, suddenly these bleeps and bloops seem to be in fashion. For those of us unfamiliar with what must be said to be an uncommon means of communication, this does _not_ instantly spell out "GLOBAL COMMUNICATION". Nor does the ear-shaped coverart GC help very much for the uninitiated. Hey - I'm in South Africa, dammit. I'm not exposed to the teaser campaign that might have alerted me to this logo in the past. Then, once arrived at the folded out inside of the sleeve, we are confronted by a series of numbers... somewhere in the shadowy recesses there lurks "76:14". Jeez [sigh] talk about arcane. Slap on the CD however, and this is just simply *the* most gorgeous sweeping soundscape ever ever. Overawed with warm one-ness and glowy gratitude to the makers of all this beauty, I carefully read ALL the small print and see that I am urged to "interact now". ! ::: hey yeah, I would love to swamp you with "poetry, scupture, recipes and aromas" (NOT !!! ) if only you'd plug into the world's, er... may I call it "global communication" network provided by the internet :-) Here is only a c/o Dedicated paper post snail mail address. Are we out of touch? Oh - and to display my TOTAL ignorance: what does "ob - selon mi - nos" mean? Carping aside ~~ I really LOVE this album. UR's "codebreaker" also incorporated morse code. there was actually a bit of a scandal involving it 'cos someone cracked the code (which was a morse code sequence in the track that gave a URL for a web page containing a briefing on a certain clandestine operation that deciphering the code made you elegible for) and promptly exposed the whole operation by posting to a bunch of mail lists the information and for anybody who digs rush the little drum solo thingie that is the intro to yyz is morse code for yyz, which itself is the international code for the toronto airport jonathan "direct descendent" morse

Yes, it does! I can't believe you haven't heard of this CD before!!!!!? It's an ambient standard and gets mentioned ALL the time!

I dunno, dare I say that you yourself may be a little out of touch with this one! It's quite an old CD. Global Comm do have a web-site though, although I don't remember the URL offhand.

Okay - with all due respect - *you* try living in South Africa and maintaining some kind of overview of what's being released worldwide. So it gets 'mentioned all the time'? Bully for it, but that doesn't mean that it gets stocked in any local shops, does it? I was very lucky indeed to pick up a pile of interesting CD's in a 2nd hand shop that had just been dropped off by a music journalist. This Globe Comm is dated 1997 (on Dedicated) and shows different cover artwork to the one displayed on the Global Communication web site - so maybe it's a reissue? I really have no way of knowing - believe me, they are not household names around here. THUS I throw out my questions to the greater communal brains available through *this* medium, ie. the IDM list and all of YOU wonderful, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people who make it happen. So : what was the original release date of 76:14 - somebody? Anybody? Thank you in advance. Right ~ I'm off to go lie in the sun :-) And maybe I'd listen to some Beach Boys... if I had any, that is. Ha ha! I * "coz if you can't dance, you can't release" source :: let's get killed

1994 you should really spend some time trying to get your hands on their "collection of short stories" from 1993 as reload...it was released on infonet both vinyl and plastic - think its since been rereleased as well. along with 76:14 it's definitly one of those "if stuck on a desert island" releases... stay groovy jonathan http://www.rust.net/~geek

While we're at it, you can still dig up "Pentamerous Metamorphosis".... j
