Very interesting. I have noticed that you idm people problably didn´t like Fat Of The Land very much. Well, let me tell ya one weird thing. For most of the music press in Brazil, Aphex IS techno. None of the so-called brazilian reviewers would get the point on this little joke with the Prodigy. Well well. Could you tell me how to subscribe this Tricky-list? <>´s Fabio Macedo Webdesigner - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil fabiomacedo@radnet.com.br Fabio Macedo Webdesigner - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil fabiomacedo@radnet.com.br

oh for gods sake.... when are you people gonna get it into your head that Aphex, autechre, mu-ziq etc etc are all goddamn TECHNO, and thats exactly what theyd describe themselves as. TECHNO is not a dirty word in the UK. It seems to be for the majority of people in the US... which is surprising seeing as TECHNO was a phrase first coined in the US...and most people making TECHNO in the UK are/were heavily influenced by early TECHNO from the US. TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO TECHNO arg... whats my point? Steve /k/./F/

I actually agree with you in some way. But the term "techno" sounds so unclear to me... this word is now being used for almost every electronic artist around (well, at least here and, as I could get, the same happens in the US). Aphex, Autechre, Future Sound Of London, u-ziq, orbital, are so distinctive - IMHO - that I can't figure out why I should use the word "techno" for describing all of them and some others. (Hope I am being clear in explaining what I feel about this).

Oh, but I think this isn't the truth for most of the other countries.

And here in Brazil too.

Yeah, the Detroit scene. But I still can't notice very much influence by Detroit techno in Aphex's sound, for example.

I understand your point of view, but I like to refer to Aphex Twin as "experimental electronic sound" (gasp) :-)) Cheers (and again, sorry for any english language mistakes) Fabio Macedo Webdesigner - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil fabiomacedo@radnet.com.br

While techno is unclear, it works great as a blanket term. If I'm talking to someone who has no idea about the 8 million different genres in electronic music, I just say I listen to "intelligent techno" and leave it at that...if I can, I'll play some for them. --Matt

I disagree and I don't even try to explain, you're pathetic....... You complicate a way too much... "There are only two kinds of music... good music and bad music" Duke Ellington And when someone asks me what music I like, I tell him : a) Nothing particulary, I don't like music so much. or b) I love good music, you know everything that's good. or c) I listen to TECHNO. It depends on my mood what I'll say, but I allways say something from this 3 options. btw, intelligent techno term is total bolloX , but nevermind.... bye Rob "oh for gods sake.... when are you people gonna get it into your head that Aphex, autechre, mu-ziq etc etc are all goddamn TECHNO, and thats exactly what they describe themselves as." not now perhaps but his early releases certainly showed plenty of influence by detroit.. 808 909 programming and his early melodic style for example. Steve /k/./F/
