Oh really? So Autechre and Aphex Twin are IDM, yet aren't known by the mainstream? I tend to think a sizeable percentage of people who have heard of Prodigy have also heard of Autechre and Aphex Twin. Both of the previous have videos out, should we start finding reasons to hate them, and defile their worth in the name of "IDM?" Explain how Prodigy makes themselves known. If Liam Howlett's main purpose was to make himself popuular, like you say, than why is it a large percentage of people who have heard (of) Prodigy don't actually know who the Prodigy is? == Chris Layne =============================== Flames to my private email == == coredump@nervosa.sf.ca.us ====== http://www.nervosa.sf.ca.us/~coredump ==

This means that 99% of the people on the world don't "deserve" get into intelligent electronic music if it casually breakthrough the big media or signs with some major? Oh, come on. There's a huge distance between having your music better shown to more people and actually being a commercial artist. <>´s Fabio Macedo Webdesigner - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil fabiomacedo@radnet.com.br

Another thing: for each 'new Prodigy fan' that got into them because of the hairdo, the more "rocker" sound and the punk visual, there are 5, 6 MTV viewers that hates them for the same reasons. I don't think that it was a very good way of looking, if we're talking about marketing. Come on. The Prodigy is selling more because of some reasons that don't have anything to do with marketing and selling out: 1 - their records are better distributed now (Experience... and Music... was only released here this year, I had to pay a little fortune to import them...); 2 - the sound is a little bit 'easier' to recognize for rock fans. It doesn't exactly mean that the sound is 'poor' -- it's just a question of using another structure for the songs. I prefer the old Prodigy, for instance, but I don't think Fat Of The Land is tottaly crap -- just some tracks sounds obvious, like the L7's "Fuel My Fire". 3 - Prodigy always had very good selling singles, or this is what I read about them since "Charly". I think that 90% of the people who bought "Out Of Space" would buy the next single without listening very much and so on, until the band records some big crap that sounded like Madonna. And this didn't happen, no matter what jokes you do with them. So it's normal for the Prodigy to sell more and more, since fans always bring new fans. But for ending this, let me be a little profetic. The next Prodigy release will do very bad in the charts. They won't piss off this discussion of early fans getting bored and worried about them. Just wait a little bit more to jugde Prodigy. Cheers Fabio Macedo Webdesigner - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil fabiomacedo@radnet.com.br
