I'll take ANY idm related reviews, new or old. However, i'm getting alot more reviews to HTML'ize than I used to, so give me a few days to get anything you send me up on the archive. Also, I think it is important to have multiple viewpoints on the albums which are being archived. Therefore, don't let the fact that someone has already written a review for the "XXXX" album stop you from writing a review for it also. Variety is the spice of life...and several other cliches along those lines. Thanks everyone for your input, I certainly am open to suggestions. --brian rachielles brachielles@juno.com idm review archive, audio on kcsb, zaph records: www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/club/4980

Brian, I'm sure that the folw of reviews is only going to get heavier, so why don't you get some assistance? If I wasn't having a hard enough time keeping my *own* site up to date, I'd offer to help, but there's gotta be a person or two here on the list that could do some simple HTML coding for ya. Anyone? Yes, this is really an important point, seeing as one man's meat is another... blah blah. It's always interesting to read various comments before making a decision on whether or not to go out of ones way for a recording (especially so here, where most IDM is *not* easily available and requires special overseas orders, often without any prior listening facilities). I do agree that all the "hey what should I get" messages are tedious, but to eliminate the problem better, the archives would have to be more comprehensive. Certainly I mean no offense toward Brian....I've gotten several albums based on reviews in there (Knights who say Dot, Plastikman "Sickness", and a few others), but I think we should make an effort to write reviews for older albums and get them on the archive (assuming Brian doesn't mind). SAW 85-92 is the only old album I've seen on there (I'm working from memory, so I could be wrong) I pretty much had to ask the list about some people...like Red Snapper, because I didn't know where to find info on them. I'm sure newbies are even more lost than I was. Therefore, if we have Brian's approval, I think we should write up some reviews for some more "classic IDM" albums, and some that have been released fairly recently, but don't have a review up (Hard Normal Daddy, Chiastic Slide, Lunatic Harness, et al). If anyone else is willing to go along, I'd be willing to write reviews of some of these older albums. --Matt

Here's my personal problem with IDM: about 75% of the posts I have no idea what you guys are talking about. What I mean is, being a resident of an essentially idm-less midwest US city, I don't have much listening access to all these wonderful items that are talked about here. I soak in as much info as I can, especially when urls are given for additional info / or sound files. I don't post much, 'cause of my lack of knowledge about many of the artists, but I'm slowly building up knowledge and my cd collection ... Now, I'm not saying that this is IDM's fault, it's not. I choose to be here, and I'm glad to gleen the occasional tidbit of info that in some way or another interests me ... I just ask that others like me (and I'm sure there's plenty) refrain from extensive, pointless postings. I'm proud to be a lurker ... and you can be to! thank you, drive through ... markw@southwind.net
