Hey all....I've heard about a million remixes by SoP, but no original work....my question is: are their remixes indicative of their regular sound? Also, doesn't Red Snapper consist of some members of SoP? (I know 2 Lone Swordsmen does) --Matt

Which regular sound?? Their first album (Sabresonic) was a mixture of trancey techno, 1993 style, and slower dubby tracks. the faster ones are king of like a lot of the remixes (eg Espiritu, Utah Saints(the 130bpm one, that is). The slow ones are sort of the same but at half the tempo. Also worth checking out from that era are the SoP label compilations (Deep Cuts(UK, Sabres of Paradise recs.) and Septic Cuts (US version on FFRR)). The second album (Haunted Dancehall) is hardly recognisable as the same band, having no trance/techno and no 4/4 beats. if you've heard Wilmot and Theme then the rest of the album is kind of like that. Slightly 'trip-hop' (sorry to use that phrase) in places. A lot of people didn't like either of the albums, but then weatherall has never really been to everyone's taste.

No. The Aloof includes Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns, who were in SoP, and Richard Thair who's also the drummer in Red Snapper. Dean Thatcher is in The Aloof, and used to be in Red Snapper too. Still with em? Pay attention... Red Snapper are on Warp, as SoP used to be, and Two Lone Swordsmen are now. Information about SoP, TLS, The Aloof and Red Snapper (not to mention David Holmes too) can be found at <http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~esvtk/flightpath/Flightpath.html> but it's not been updated for a while. Or you could try the Emissions Audio Output site at <http://www1.haywire.co.uk/haywire/emissions/> There should be sampes of the new DC Fumes (latest TLS alias) EP. I hope the SoP/Weatherall/all the rest of them clan makes a bit more sense now. Of course I've not yet dragged in Kris Needs, Boys Own and the rest of them.... cheers, Jon - Jon Green zcapn33@ucl.ac.uk "Keep hens from fencing with hen fencing from Roberts' Hen Fencing"
