just saw aphex twin last night at the vic theatre in chicago.... ill cut right to the chase: first act - linoleum. less then impressive couldnt understand much of what the singer was singing, but she was pretty... second act - sneaker pimps. better then linoleum, i started to move a little bit with the rest of the crowd but none the less I was still feeling uninspired. bring out twin I remmember thinking.... third act - dj luke vibert. spining some good d&b tracks that got the crowd a *little* more excited. finally twin. first track i didn't recognize...the crowd was warming up to the tunes.... after about 10 minutes of aural confusion...out comes something familiar (cant recall trak) the bears come out bouncing and humping and the crowd loves it.... richard was on for only about an hour...i remember hearing only about 3 or 4 traks that i recognized. his last trak didgeridoo finally got everyone moving, but it was over by then. richard leaped of his couch without a word and was gone, we all pleaded for an encore but never got one. after the show a group of us waited outside his bus. he came out, signed albums etc. my brother even got his aphex logo tattoo signed.... after getting my ticket stub signed i shook his hand, and thanked him. we all went home in wonder about meeting the twin.... andreu Osika ® hifiCircus hunters of nu4M. http://www.wwa.com/~afo

British(?) grunge at it's worst. I heard cries of "Go back to Ohio" from the crowd at a silent moment.

<excerpt> second act - sneaker pimps. better then linoleum, i started to move a little bit with the rest of the crowd but none the less I was still feeling uninspired. bring out twin I remmember thinking.... </excerpt><<<<<<<< Sneaker pimps, not my bag o' tea. Good visuals though, they should have just played the CD and put up the visuals cause I couldn't understand what the lead singer was singing.

<excerpt> third act - dj luke vibert. spining some good d&b tracks that got the crowd a *little* more excited. </excerpt><<<<<<<< Vibert was the dj the whole time, not the third act in order per say. Good though.

<excerpt> finally twin. first track i didn't recognize...the crowd was warming up to the tunes.... after about 10 minutes of aural confusion...out comes something familiar (cant recall trak) </excerpt><<<<<<<< I think it was "Inkey$". Most of that first 10 minutes (mostly fiddling about) and some other parts sounded like variations of that song.
quoted 1 line>>>>
<excerpt>the bears come out bouncing and humping and the crowd loves it.... </excerpt><<<<<<<< Not only the bears but that woman who came out and jumped on the bears. Who was she? It was quite weird since I haven't heard any Aphex reviews that said she'd come out and get into the act. She also played with Richards dangling leg, he smiled. Girlfriend possibly?

<excerpt>for an encore but never got one. </excerpt><<<<<<<< He's a bastard ain't he? I think he probably heard something about it being a rock show standard in the Midwest or America for that matter to give an encore, he just refuses to follow the rules I guess.

I left promptly because I had a run in with Security before the show started. They busted me for taking in bootleg shirts, in their reasoning that I had the potential to sell them inside for profit. Lost $50 in shirts (5), nice shirts too. Almost got hauled to jail too, got threatened by them and also verbally assulted by security for being from south of Chicago (Eureka to be exact). I guess the sex pistols said it best "No fun in the USA" Richard's set was cool though. No streaker though, probably a security concern. : P I hear the streakers name is Matt Jones, and he works at Rephlex, I previously saw him chatting up Luke in the dj booth er...box. He's got some stuff coming out. He's also recently been seen at a Rephresh gig asking everyone "Has anyone seen my hard on?" Had a right good time though. I just hope I won't get hauled away to jail later for attempted selling of my shirts. I vow to never go to the Vic again nor listen to Q101 (the guy from Q101 was the one who asked for a shirt), I hope all other IDMer's join in a similar boycott. They just can't get away with shit like that. Rusty

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Cute... I should have taped it but I didn't think about buying a Walkman that could record until the night before the concert. What's a good recording walkman to use? I saw a Aiwa stereo one at Best Buy for $60, which was all they got, and I really wanted a bigger selection but this was all. What kind do all you IDMers use? BTW...I thought that even if I was taping the Chicago gig, the acoustics were really bad for the first two bands, but Aphex's set was pretty clear... I should have taped it. Rusty
